Hi all..

I just got my 02' MDX + touring..

And so I start wondring about the oil it uses.. With my old car, I get oil from either costco,
or AutoBarn.com (mobil 1 10w 30) but MDX manul says 5w 20 and the cap says 5w 30
so.. which to use?.. and where to get the cheaper Mobil 1?

Try the SEARCH feature ...

... it works great and is a valuable resource. Use oil and/or any of the brands you desire as keywords in the search. There are several past threads that discussed oil brands in detail.

By the way I use Quaker State 4X4 Synthetic Blend. Its a freebie from the dealer - but we have been satisfied.
By the way ...

... congrats and welcome to the group:D
Thanks msu79gt82

I did find cheaper Mobil 1 oil (5w 30) in Target. it's 3.99 .. the cheapest I can find..

Used to buy it for 4.75 online.. sigh..
Place for the 1st Oil Change

When I picked up "my baby", the salesman advised me to get the 1st oil change at 3200 miles. That was 6 weeks ago, and after 2 trips I am right at that mileage.

I am in Boca Raton, Florida for the winter. There is no dealer in this city in southern Florida, but I notice there is one in Delray Beach and Ft Lauderdale.

Any recommendations as to either of these dealerships? If I should decide to go to a "regular" service place, I assume it would be OK for the warantee? However I notice the manual calls for 5W30 oil and I see places advertise 10W30. Does that make a difference?

Appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

I like Castrol Oil myself. For some reason Castrol and Honda has a really special relationship..From the racing track to its dealerships... I currently use a Castrol synthetic blend 5W30 for my Hondas and Acuras.
Have just about 16,000 on 01 Mesa Beige/Touring/Navi, etc... so far... wonderful machne! I use Mobile 1, change at about 3500/4000 mile intervals.... In Vero Beach, Fl, and use either Acura Dealer in Ft. Pierce, or a nearby Honda Dealer... they will do routine maintenance, but not warranty stuff!
Hope this helps!
YES LESTER ! USE 5W30
For the '01, and I would think it would be the same for the '02, the MDX Service Manual recommends 5W-30 viscosity for ambient temperatures of 92 deg F and below, and recommends 10W-30 for ambient temperatures of 18 deg F and above -- so between 18 and 92, you can use either. The oil must be rated API Service Grade SJ or later, and the container must say "for gasoline engines."

I would not go beyond the recommended 7500 mile oil-change maximum, and personally prefer to use the "severe driving conditions" mileage of 3750 miles or 6 months.

Well, I change my own oil (5w30 for when its below 92, which is always), and I'm assuming that's OK for the warranty! Keeping my receipts and recording changes in the manual as documentation.

At first I confused the local Honda dealer by giving them an Acura parts number. I've since learned to ask for the 'little blue' Honda filter & washer.
