Of course there's a spare! It's under the rear floor board. It's not a full-size, though: it's one of those temporary, "doughnut-style" things, although some posters have found a way to get a full-size in there.

No, that is not true. The spare tire is right under the cargo area. It is not a full size spare tire. But, I suspect that, since the rim is a regular rim, when it is time to replace tires, you can keep one of the old, regular tire as spare.

OK, OK, so it's under the cargo area... that's close enough to the rear floor board for me...... especially if you consider it the 3rd row seat floor board!!!!!

I don't think it's a regular rim. Otherwise, Acura would have put a regular-size tire on it, no?

Sorry, I don't mean "no" to what you said. I was saying that MDX does not have spare tire is not true. We just post at the same time.

As for the rim, I am not sure if it is regular. I just have my MDX for three weeks. I know one of my previous car has temporary spare tire on regular rim. Anyone can verify?

A full size spare fits just fine

I did upgrade to a full size spare and it fits fine in the same location as the "donut" spare. However, it is slightly visible now. I bought the alloy wheel from Tim and the tire from Tire Rack. When the tires wear out I'll just buy 3, move the spare to active duty and use a worn one as the spare.

The space for the mini-spare has to fit a full-size rim so that you have some place to put the flat while driving on the "donut"...:)

January Special

This discussion reminds me maybe to buy the spare rim and tire from Tim as on the January Special.

Does anybody have any idea on price if I get the tire and rim and installed from a dealer?

Can somebody confirm that the Donut Tire's rim is not the same as the regular rim...

My understanding is, the spare is the same diameter as the regular tires just skinnier. All tires have to be spinning the same speed because otherwise the computer will sense the difference and compensate. I will double check that tomorrow when I go in. It's been a while since that came up, and I think I'm having a 70's moment.

Roger or Tim,

Can you confirm that I must buy a new rim if I am to buy the full spare tire? Hope to catch this month's special if that is what I will get.

Thanks.

Do a search ...

... on full size spares. I was one of the first to get one. I highly recommend it. There are several old threads that discuss this including ones with pictures.
