I don't see what there were thinking with this commercial at all. What is the target demographic they are trying to hit with it? And I agree with smooth2222 - the intro was over half of the commercial length and they didn't even show the MDX yet, and when they did, it was just to showcase the headlights.

The extremely new 2014 mdx made for mankind

From its inception, Acura has held fast to a deep-rooted engineering and design philosophy: always begin with the human being behind the wheel. If you can create harmony between man and machine, luxury will result.

They built a nice 4 door Honda Van...big whoop.
Dude this is not a van! As it has been discussed on this board it doesn't do the van trick of 3 carseats being on the second row with the ability to use third. In addition the tailgate is the 5th door, very convinient way to eject a body out of the SUV while driving. Have you test driven Santa Fe? You sound like its your type of car.

All I see are commercials for hair stylists, makeup stuff, and lens correction.

Only one is about MDX.

Quick, Acura, lay off Vidal Sasson marketing department and seek help from automotive marketing companies. Your commercials SUCK!!!!

Actually the 09 Sport MDX is my fave....

I'm saying Honda dumbed this one down....much like BMW and the latest 3 series.

These ads remind me of the first Infiniti Q45 ads, they barely showed the car. It's almost like Acura is ashamed.
+1

I had the exact same thought after seeing these ads. It's like Acura is trying hard to hide the MDX overall and is only showcasing the lights.

2014 Acura MDX ad campaign the most expensive in brand's history

Realizing that it must spend more marketing dollars to compete with the more established luxury automakers, Acura is preparing to launch its most expensive ad campaign ever for its redesigned 2014 MDX. At $78 million, according to Advertising Age, the new "Made for Mankind" campaign that kicks off next month is exactly double what Acura spent on the 2013 RDX launch last year. It's also the brand's first cooperation with its new agency, Boston- and Los-Angeles-based Mullen Advertising. Thanks to its bigger budget, we'll be seeing ads for the MDX pop up just about everywhere from television commercials, cinemas and billboards to videos focused on computers and mobile devices.

The first such video is entitled "Human Race," and it enunciates Acura's recent tagline highlight, the synergy between man and machine. More interestingly, the 2014 MDX, which went on sale this month, doesn't make an appearance in the 60-second spot until close to the end. This video is posted below as well as a press release from Acura along with images of various ads we should start soon.
