I just got this link from another friend that has an MDX also. I just bought a Black '01 MDX with Navi + Touring a few months back and love it.

Upgrades so far:

- Professionally tinted the side windows 30% for extra shading since I live in San Jose, CA.

- Drop-in K&N air filter, not sure if it made much difference but sounds nice.

- All season mats, cargo net and a wooden shift knob.

I am thinking about getting some 20" wheels for it.

Lowenhart Wheels with Michelin 275/40ZR-20s:

Has anyone heard of problems on the MDX with 20" wheels.

Thanks,

Theory

Best Sales Person on the Planet.

What a small world. I live right up Quimby Road and it was probably me driving east on Capitol Expwy.

I see that same Mesa Beige driving around. I think it is a Filipino dude that owns it. I would goto Stevens Creek Acura and ask for Rob (in sales) and tell him that Brian referred you.

No BS and he is a genuinely nice guy and probably the reason why I bought the MDX instead of the X5 to be honest.

Let me know when you get yours and we'll have to get our little MDX enthusiast club going. lol.

Hi fellow San Josean. out for my first test drive Saturday. I am so close to plunking the money down!
Saw a new black one headed east on Capitol Expwy yesterday, was that you?

There is a Mesa Beige one I see almost weekly around Aborn Rd....
What dealer did you patronize?

I already have an appointment setup with Michael Andrews in Redwood City (Hopkins Acura) . far I know, but he came highly recommended and we are up that way at least monthly.
In any event, let's stay in touch. I am working on the financing right now, lease or buy, quite a lot discussion on the board about that.
But looking to get a base + navi and add some accessories after delivery.

Stevens Creek.

The other sales guy that helped me out to was an Asian guy named Ricky that works closely with Rob. Rob really knows the MDX inside out so if you have any granular questions that a typical sales person can't answer it would be worth the visit to speak with Rob. Can't remember his last name but he is a tall surfer looking guy.

I went through Acura for the financing as they met what I got from the credit union without any problems.

They also get a nice selection of cars since they are in a remodel stages, Acura is trying to promote their dealership.

HOPKINS ACURA

I bought my white MDX from Michael Andrews at Hopkin's Acura. I would also recommend him highly. He's very professional, knows the products very well, no pressure.

Got my MDX at MSRP...no force accessories. Only drawback is the long wait--7-8 months. Although you might get lucky with a cancellation.

Yeah, I will be into the 2003 models by then for sure. Iwill see what he says tomorrow. Plus, there are bound to be more limited colors, etc. this far into the season.

I have a car to sell and the longer I wait to sell it, the less it will be worth. Then I could use that profit for part of the down, etc... this is why the delivery date may have a direct effect on whether I buy or lease. Lots of ways to go here.

But I am sold on the car.. the wife is pushing for deep mahogany pearl, originally we had thought mesa beige, but 'availability' may be deciding all that now.

Hi fellow San Joseans...

Tried getting mine through Stevens Creek Acura but they could not get me a Granite Green one

Finally located one in Seattle & I am flying up there on Friday to pick it up - should be a great drive back down !

Yes .. Hopkins is cool. I spoke to a very nice lady Arlene over there a few months back but she mentioned that the wait would be 8-10 months!

If you want something sooner, try some of the dealerships outside the Bay Area - Santa Rosa, Scaramento (approx 3 months wait there and no forced BS). Stevens Creek, Sunnyvale etc require 1-2K of forced accessories. Interestingly, a few months ago, Sunnyvale was only forcing the protection package (MSRP+~$500) with a 1-2 month wait, but now its more like MSRP+~2K accessories.

my montreal ..

As of last night, Sunnyvale Acura had an unclaimed GG ... (MSRP + $2K accessories). If you are not already committed you may want to give them a call.

Good Luck!

yeah, its dog eat dog out there.. I am setting aside about 2K after I take delivery to add accessories, etc.
I don't want that eaten up by dealer greed.

Somehow, I can not make the connection between availability at one dealer, and whether they go above MSRP or not.

As long they keep selling them as they come off the line, Acura could care less if the dealer is trying pocket more profit. Am I missing something?

But professionalism goes a long way with me and I like Michael Andrew's approach.
I sent out email to schedule test drives with a few in the Bay Area, and Stevens Creek hit me with 2 replies and 2 phone calls. I was clear my preference was e-mail response. That salesperson was neither of the salesmen Theory mentioned, but it did turn me off.

Michael sent one email, and was simply clear when he could have a car available.

Congrats on the "X"--

theory,

Glad to hear that your friend sent you this forum. I hope you like it. It's got alot of good information and good people on it.

Also I wanted to congratulate you on buying the MDX. How do you like it so far? I have the same as you 01, Black touring, with navi. I wouldn't give up the navigation system for anything. I just can't wait until they get everywhere mapped on it.

I like the idea of the side windows being tinted, but living in Illinois, well it's illegal so it won't happen for me (don't need the headaches). What I would like to do is get some purple neon lights to go underneath the "X". What are peoples opinion on that? Would it be too much?

Oh, it's a lot better now! Only 6 or 7 months, about the time they spring the 2003s loose. I will be discussing this in more detail with Michael on Sat. as I drool over the road test car. (I will make sure I wear my bib)
I am considering calling outside the Bay Area, like Sac, Santa Rosa, etc. But want that first go with Hopkins.
If I was a salesman that's the kind of place I would want to work. It's no superstore, but it's down to earth. Cool looking deep blue TL there, I was ready to drive that out of there...nice car!
I told the wife, " if you prefer...." nope, she would not hear of it. But then she is more patient than me.

My opinion, reinforced by some local dealers (NOT the Acura dealer here): if a dealer asks for more than MSRP, he is willing to sell your car to the highest bidder when it comes in, and tell you that it never showed up -- but he'll be glad to order you another one. I wonder if that's where some of these extremely long delivery times are coming from? I made my $500 down-payment to hold my place in line for my '01 in April, and took delivery on July 2.

I got my from Priceline.com in January of this year MSRP $36,180 and went to Oakland Acura for pick up. It only took me one day to pick up the car, I got lucky.

I have an order on an MDX, no deliv. date as yet, but if I see an MDX with neon lights I'm cancelling my order and heading for straight for Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, hell even Nissan or maybe I'll go after that butt ugly Porsche Cayenne...

Please don't doooo it!

Please don't put neon lights, the quality of this car will go down the drain, What's the purpose of the neon lights anyway?
