BEST IN SHOW
HONDA DUALNOTE

Honda Dualnote photo gallery
In a show full of interesting concepts, the Honda Dualnote was singled out by each AutoWeek editor as having exceptional looks and forward thinking, and wound up being named the Best in Show. The Dualnote is Honda's vision of what the future sports car will be, or what the company prefers to call "sports-minded driving." The design team's goal was to create a car that would allow anyone to experience the exhilaration and joy of driving a purpose-built sports car without having the necessary skills to handle such a vehicle. Dual Note features Honda's next-generation Integrated Motor Assist system, combing a 3.5-liter V6 DOHC i-VTEC engine with electric motor assist. Additional power from the electric motor drives the front wheels, raising total power output to 400 hp. While there are no plans to build Dualnote, all the technology contained in the car is available today…or soon will be.

BEST CONCEPT
HONDA UNIBOX

Honda Unibox photo gallery
Of the four awards AutoWeek editors handed out in Tokyo, none was more difficult to decide than best concept. There were dozens to choose from, probably the best collection in Makuhari Messe since 1991. While we don't expect to see the Honda Unibox driving down the road anytime soon (not much demand for vehicles on the road today that you can see completely through), AW editors appreciated what Unibox is and what it could be. Billed as a "Multi Life Terminal," the wide-open interior featuring six tall seats can be configured in a variety of ways and, as it rides on six wheels, it could take you just about anywhere. Also, if you don't like the Apple MacIntosh-like clear panels, they can be swapped for painted ones to suit your mood. Unibox also draws on Honda's many resources as it is equipped with two electric fold-up motorcycles integrated into the side doors, has room for a navigation-equipped shopping cart and an onboard generator is built in to power these appliances. A thing like Unibox can't settle for a mere steering wheel: instead a joystick is used, and not only are there airbags inside, but there's a pedestrian-protection front airbag outside, deployed in the event of a close encounter with a jogger.

The Dualnote smells familiar... Can anyone say new 3.5 RL Legend?
