What's up everyone?.
I know this topic has been discussed before, but my search turned up inconclusive findings. I think Tim said it is the exact same part number, but a couple other techies say it is not. I'm interested for a couple of reasons. 1. possibly using the screen for something more useful than watching my gas mileage drop when I accelarate, such as videos and 2. i still have not given up on adding the Acura Nav. system down the road. So if you know or think you know please enlighten me Thanks.

I'm pretty sure they are different. There was a thread where this very issue was discussed, and someone with far more expertise than I was of the ipinion that only the navi screen is capable of displaying video. Even though I don't have navi, people always assume that's what the screen is for. The first thing everyone says when they ride in my 'X is "cool, you have navi", followed by me saying "nope, it's just a trip computer, navi is a $2k option"

This is the discrepancy I was reffering to,

I talked with Tim at Hondaacuraworld concerning installing the factory nav components in a non nav MDX. He did some checking on the display unit for the non anv and nav models.

He was informed from Honda America that the display units are the same. They come up with the same part numbers.

He also said the parts priced out at 2800.00. DVD unit, wiring harnesses, etc..

I think Tim got it wrong.

Clearly, there are different buttons on the Nav display versus the non-nav.

The Nav has a touch screen

The Nav has a color display.

You definitely need a new display.


Last thing you want to do is purchase everything you think you need for $2800, then find out you need an $1600 display and a $300 GPS antenna....

I don't have access to the part #s like Tim, but based on the service manual it sure seems to me that the screens are different. If you search for the other discussion threads re: this you'll see some posts w/pix.

Thanks a lot Worm, you are definitely a wealth of information and are always very helpful. I realize the Navigation Equipped Screens have additional buttons to the sides of the screen, However I was wondering if the non-nav screen has the same display capabilities as the Nav screen, such as the ability to display color.

No problem, gokings55. FYI here are a couple of the links I mentioned.

In addition, the service manual has pretty extensive information on testing the Nav display -- one of which includes color testing. There is no such information on the trip-only. Unfortunately, the manual provides absolutely no specs on the trip display (whereas for the Nav it has the # of pixels, etc etc).

donsev mentions in the first thread that he doesn't even think the non-nav is pixel-addressable. One easy way to see is to check if it even has pixels. Just get close and look -- you can see the actual pixels on an LCD display (like on a laptop). If there aren't any...
