Yes I did it. I really thought it would be a bozo in a parking lot. I pulled out too fast from the garage and scraped my wife's camry. I knocked off the rear mud flap. That was an interesting repair which worked well. I just moved the bottom screw holder up 1 inch. Drilled a new hole through the fender well, also plastic and it screwed in tightly. It broke off during the impact in the original placement. The other screws remained intact and just had to be re-tightened.

MY QUESTION IS SHOULD I JUST GET TOUCH UP PAINT FROM THE DEALER? I have a 2 inch long scratch in the plastic bumper, 1/8th of an inch, at most thick. And does anyone know if the Honda Oddisey sp? Is the exact same color in starlight silver as the MDX. I live much closer to the Honda dealer.
Thanks

MOTHER F$%#ERS.... I swear I park in the boonies and just about fainted when I saw a 6 inch scratch and red paint on my front left side. I have question. I may be able to caly off the paint but how can I deal with the scratches?? It is on the plastic. Will a buffer get them out. I have never buffed before. I swear I would run up one side and down the other. BLING......You ready to help me on this one????? I just can't believe it. I think it is a Target shopping cart. Oh yeah, I was at another store a few weeks ago and walked out only to find a shopping cart against the bumper. I was parked in the middle of nowhere but was downhill from the "F"idiots. No damage on that one. You shouldd have seen the stares as I swore like a sailor. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Hello M4MDX. are you still around and reading posts on this board?

Noticed that you are from Southern Oregon. To my knowledge you and I are to only ones on the board from S Oregon.

This post is over 2 years old. Have you fixed this scratch yet and if so how?

That sucks hockeyplayer. I am always parking in the boonies myself, as I am sure most are. Even still I am always doing the full ding scan before I get in. We went to a restaurant the other night and were forced to park with the masses, I couldn't hardly enjoy the meal wondering who was parking next to me. Fortunately, no dings. Also thanks for the tip, I will make an effort to not only park in the boonies, but up hill as much as possible. Good luck with the the scratch repair.

The above site has those magnetic door guards.

I purchased 4 when my "X" was about two weeks new. I still use them when the "boonies" are not available and I have no other choice. I'm down to 3 because I probably drove off with one on the door...but such is life.

They're not beautiful and they won't stop a shopping cart...but they are probably cheaper than counseling! ;)

I don't have any parking lot dings...yet.

$6 cheaper here:
http://www.sparkleauto.com/park-smart-mats.html

Whynotmdx:

The above site does not allow you to specify it's for the MDX unlike the www.caraccessories.com website, which allows you to specify the year, make and model. Is the length the same for all 4 of them and how's the fit? I got my first ding a few weeks ago after I installed the BSM.

thanks

I have no idea, I don't have them.
It looks like the same manufacturer, so it should be the same.
I just noticed them when I was looking for these:

Dmor: are the MagDoorGuard units you bought the same size? I called the sparkleauto.com and they said the size is 24 3/4 in. (L) x 7 in. (W). This is the shop that sells them $6 cheaper. The person said the color is grayish, clear; opaque. Did somebody steal one of them?

thanks,

I too did it myself. (Although I blame my wife.) Pulled into the garage after work and the little people can running out the door to greet me. I pulled up to with in what I thought was a reasonable distance of the ladder that sits in front of the car. I got out and went inside, shutting the garage door as I always do. (insert noise of a garage door slowing down and shaking) I hadn't pulled in far enough. My wife had moved the ladder back to change the cat box(at least I didn't have to do that) and not placed the ladder all the way back. Nice deep scratch in the plastic bumper about 2 inches by an 1/8.

I think it was just three months old at the time.

I got the fancy tennis ball string combo hanging in the garage now.

Thats the only site I've seen that sells them that asks for yr/mk/md :8: As far as I know one size fits all.

The dealer purchased touch-up paint matched perfectly, that along with some wet sanding and it looks reasonable..

Wet sanding is like buffing the car. You take a very high grit sandpaper (specifically made for auto finish work) and actually "sand" the cars finish, using water to wet the sandpaper and finish as you work. My brother-in-law does body work and gave me a piece of his paper. I believe it was 1500 grit??? Anyway what this does is take the "edge" off of the scratches making the finish appear more consistent, thus making the touch-up paint and the scratch blend in.

Hope this is helpful.:)

Your source sounds cheaper but probably the same product. Mine are 6 5/8 (W) x 24 3/4 color is that clear thick plastic color...looks a little purple...but some might say gray. They're probably the same ones. Mine say Park-Smart ... Auto Care Products, Inc. San Diego, CA U.S. Patent #D368,060. I drove to the facility and picked them up. http://www.auto-care.com/magnetic.html I also bought those Yellow (drive over) things...but don't use them.

You can check out the original posts in the "Door Ding Survey Thread" or just search Park-Smart. I think I paid around $16 and purchased 4 of them.

Re: the one that got away... I suspect I drove off with it on there or it fell off and was never picked up. I can't imagine anyone stealing just one (unless thay have a Mini!)

I love them...I just make sure to run my finger over the magnetic strip to remove any dust, before applying, so I don't scratch my doors. Otherwise...I highly recommend them for "tight situations". Plus they're a reminder to the "other guy" thay you care about your car, so they might be more careful.
