Mud Flaps or Fender Flares??

I know the fender flares look better then mud flaps but which protects the side of your MDX better from sprayed mud and rocks thrown up by your own tires?

Have them both.

You can have them both. Check out DMor thread on fender flare installation.
Rear Flaps!

I personally like the clean lines of the MDX w/o external additions such as Fender Flares. Of course this is a matter of personal opinion; with each to his/her own. Since the car comes with the front flaps, I believe that rear flaps compliments the total look and provides adequate protection.

Fender flares are more for cosmetic appearance. They are not much for any protection and are only just over an inch thick.

The rear mud flaps or guards are for the protection of spraying muds and rocks. They are exactly the same as those in the fronts, both functional and appearance. They are much cheaper, about 10% of the former.

Hopes that will help you making decisions.
Agreed, TD

For most, mud flaps are a must. Fender flares are simply a "look".

Rear mud Guards

The rear guards will help but are to short to do a lot of good. This has been discussed in previous threads.
The fender flares will help with the parking lot dings, but not sure how they will hold up under a real smack.

The fender flare is not as strong as other car makers. I scratched mine by just touching the wood frame of the garage door. Also, I do not think it will help on preventing parking lot dings which usually happened on the doors. It may prevent dings on the fenders :D

tdnone, you need to widen your garage :)

But you're right, the flares are cosmetic, whereas the mud flaps have a purpose; they protect the forward portion of the rear quarter panel (not long enough to help out the back). Get'em, they're essential...
