I agree with you that it SHOULD be standard equipment, but unfortunately it isn't. I have these and the towing package. I think the rear mud flaps are a necessity. I got the towing package primarily to have added transmission cooling and to have towing ability if I decide to get another boat or need a trailer to help the kids in their constant college/home/college trek. The transmission cooling phobia comes from my past experience w/ a 1990 Toyota 4-Runner that was replaced by my MDX.
