I've read some MDX owners have change their oil at around 3000-3500 miles. The manual's scheduled first oil change is not until 7500 miles-I guess due to the "break-in additive" in the engine oil for brand new MDX. When is the RIGHT time/mileage to schedule first oil change and is Synthetic oil recommended? Anybody knows? Thanks in advance.

My salesman told me to DEFINITELY change it after 3,000 miles.

I specifically brought up the discussions that I heard here on the forum and he said that it should be done at 3,000.

Others here will probably disagree.

It seems like everyone's salemen told them different things.
That concerns me.

My dealer, in South Florida, put a sticker on my windshield that says that first service is due at 3,750 miles. Is it better to do it then or to give the break-in oil longer to do its thing? On my previous cars, I did the first oil change, to Mobil 1, at 1,000 miles.

Do it at 3750 miles.

The 7000 miles is for those who don't drive the vehicule
very much, are above 60 and wear a hat on sundays...

They put a sticker in my MDX too that said 3,000 or 3,250 or something of that nature.

I get my first oil change for free at my dealership.
Part of landing my deal.

sorry guys, but i have to disagree!

being a proud owner of an S2000, honda also setup a maintenance schedule NOT to change the oil for the first 7500mi. their additive is specifically made to lubricate and protect the engine and componentry.

who am i to question the superb honda engineers that developed such fine automobiles like the S2000, NSX, and now the MDX?! if you don't believe me, ask the hundreds of other S2000 owners at http://www.s2000online.com

IMHO, DON'T CHANGE THE OIL UNTIL THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS AT 7500 MILES

cheers

Oil and bikes

Yep, 7500 manual recommended miles for me as well unless someone can explain otherwise.

Acura4life, I own 2 sportbikes myself (a 2000 Yamaha R1, and a 2000 Yamaha R6). Good luck on your CBR. Take a safety course and a track school as soon as you can. Always wear the proper gear, and select responsible riding buddies!

I'm going to be a first time rider this spring. I am DEFINITELY going to take a course at the NJDMV here in North Jersey. My other friends have taken it or are taken it again. VERY responsible riding buddies.

I've wanted a bike my whole life...time to ca$h in !!
Since I'm Acura4Life...probably got to go HONDA CBR !!
SWEET ride !

Thanx for the concern !!!!

Happy riding & MDXing !

All:

When I go to the dealer today to pick up my MDX, I'm going to raise this First Oil change question again....with the service department, my salesman & the dealership manager.

I'll post their responses later tonight.

I don't understand why they would put a sticker stating 3,000 miles ?!?!?!

For those of us living in Canada, we are considered using the car in severe conditions. So the 3750 miles applies then.

For those living south (no winter) you are considered driving it in regular conditions and waiting 7500 miles
for an oil change is just fine.

It snows here in good old North New Jersey (20 inches this past week) and the temperature has been below freezin' everyday.

Cold as ALL hell.

Maybe that's why ?!

My dealer stated that the 7500 mile interval does not apply since they consider use in New England as severe duty. Hence the 3750 interval recommended to me. Generally, severe duty is warranted if the vehicle is used in lots of stop and go driving.

Unless you are a travelling salesman, I'd stick with the 3750 recommendation, at least until after you've switched over to synthetic (if that's your plan).

Yes it's cold here & yes I drive everyday in HEAVY stop & go.

Guess that answers my question before I even go to the dealer.

I'll ask anyway.

Thanx all !
