Re: Repair costs

Seems we also have the lowest average cost for repairs, according to these 4 tests......http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/low_speed_midsuv.htm
I do believe that the MDX is the lowest overall, but note that this repair cost chart is in alphabetical order; not lowest to highest. There are a couple of specific categories where the MDX was not the lowest.

I don't think I'll be passing this along to my brother with a 2002 Pathfinder.

The safety rating of the X is the #1 reason we have it today. :4:

Of course, because the X is so close to being a minivan! Just kidding folks. . . way to go MDX!:2:

MDX / CRV SUVs top safety list

MDX tops list of all SUVs tested in 2002 for front side and rollover resistance receiveng 5 stars in all categories except rollover resistance (4 stars - only other vehicle to get 4 was the Pontiac Aztek 4x4). The CRV has the second highest rating with 3 stars for rollover resistance but 5 stars for all other categories. Not all the competition was tested but it was surprising that some heavier vehicles fared far worse than the CRV. Also surprising to me is how high the Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape and Saturn Vue scored.

Re: X on WSJ hottest seller list too.

Anyone have an online subscription to the Wall Street Journal who can log in and grab what other info they said regarding these numbers? I'd be interested to read this article. From what I can find out, the info was published sometime before 2003-02-04.

WSJ list

These all make sense to me except the Nissan Murano....all of the local dealerships around here have at least 15 of them available all the time...they don't seem to be selling well here. The MDX still has a 3 month waiting list here, and it is listed below the Nissan.....doesn't make sense to me. Now if they were talking about the Infinity FX45 I could see it......

Curiously, NHTSA has elected not to carry over the 2002 MDX's 5-star front crash test scores to 2003. Instead, their web site says "to be tested."

Usually NHTSA will carryover the previous year's test result if a significant design change has not been made. There doesn't seem to have been much done to the 2003 that would make its frontal crash test result different The score is already 5-stars so I can't imagine Acura requesting a re-test, which is the other reason a result may not be carried over.

Strange.

Could it have something to do with the new tranny in the '03? It seems like modern cars all have some kind of design where the engine goes up and the tranny goes down (or maybe vice versa?) in a front crash, so a new tranny might be an important variable.

Good point, that's probably it. Acura claims that with the tranny they affected the weight distribution somewhat, so I think you're right.

I'm sure the new new test score will also be 5-stars. Honda seems determined to get specific results and they obviously know how to model and test it internally.
