MDX Birthday Party - Friday - 9:30 CST

Hey all,

OK, tomorrow is the first birthday of my MDX - on Nov 30, 2000 I drove down to the Twin Cities with our '89 Camry thinking a single thought: "I am not driving this car home".

After several months of SUV analysis, and recently discovering the MDX, I set my sights on that car. I called a dealer, who said there's a 3 month wait (this was the early days of MDXs) I said "I'll think about it."

Half an hour later I called him back, he said "It's gone".

Next day, he called me, said "It's back". I said "Here's $500 on my Visa, hang on to it."

Ten days later, I came, I saw, I traded the Toyota.

So, in honor of this great event , I'm hosting the first MDX birthday party over in the Chat section of this site (courtesy of webmaster Daniel).

So come as you are, about 9:30 CST, we'll party to the wee hours of the morning (that would be roughly 10:20 for me). I plan to bring a few of my single malt scotches, there's a particularly nice one I picked up at World of Whiskeys in Heathrow (the English are so bizzare), recommended by a true Scotsman (has anyone noticed the Scots are completely incomprehensible? I know Estonians that speak better English than the Scots - but I digress, as you can tell by the multiply-nested paranthetical expressions))

In any event, I invite all MD.ORG members, the old ones, the really really old ones (you know who you are :) ), the mid and late '01ers, and the increasing new crop of 2002'ers, who may not get the weeping mirrors (what will you have to talk about?), but who are the advance guard of MDX owners.

So here's the invitation - I'll be there - you be there, it'll be fun, ya?

Note here that I can't take responsibility for what happens - come at your own discretion. Me and my Bunnahabhain will be celebrating this last wonderful year. You'll have to bring your own. I'll be happy to chat about things important in the Northland (great snows, Lake Superior, moose, snowshoes, lutefisk, etc), MDXisms and whatever tickles you southerner's fancy.

P.S. you Canooks are invited too, eh?

Okay, so that makes it 10:30 EST, and I'm in the chat at 10:39, and nobody's here. Did you poop out that fast, or did the liquor not feel like talking? ;)
Yo that's on Friday, buddy, this be Thursday (even in New York), which is Tequila night (just picked up a bottle of Two Fingers, $14.99 with a $2.00 rebate -not particularly good though, bet I'll have a headache in the morning... :( )

But I'll recover by manana, see ya then!
Tim:

You are one day ahead. The party is tomorrow :)
Uh, Tim, that would be FRIDAY morning. But you can start drinking now, if you like.

You guys are amazing - go to bed already - the party's tomorrow!
Chat meltdown

Well, I was able to talk to myself in the chatroom, but can't see anyone else, and it spins the heck out of my hard disk. Daniel needs to get his money back on that one...

It's not working for me either :(
me neither

I guess I'll have to drink my wee dram of Highland Park by myself now. I couldn't get on the chat either. I thought it might be a personal deficiency or Mac-based problem, but I see you couldn't get to your own party either, ghost.

Still, congrats on a year of ownership.

Slunge.

hey, I'm still partyin' :D

This is faster anyway, that program really was doing a lot of read/writes to my hard disk - it would spin for 10-20 seconds while the screen froze, then recover.

But it was kind of neat to slap everyone in the room with a large fish, too bad I was the only one there.

Hey Gator, have fun tearin up the Everglades tomorrow!
I've got an idea, lets take the party over to the CR-VIX chatroom! I've never used it but I'm betting Bing's got his act together over there :) Here's the link:

http://www.ptcruiserusa.com/hondasuv/crvix

When you get there, type in "crvix" into the signup box on the top right and click the go button (hitting enter doesn't work). You should then see a chatroom at the bottom of the next page.
Hmm. When posting actually outperforms live chat, there's definitely something, uh, fishy. Then again, this is a proven method of raising the member status of us less-than-senior folks.

Hey guys, the CR-V chatroom is up and running, come on over and lets start the party at Bing's house :p
Hey, that Chat room works, cmon over! :D

And make sure you sign in as a guest.
The morning after

Oy, my head...

Well thanks to the intrepid group that came to the Chat. We tried to start off here on the MDX site, but that bit of Java just doesn't do it - mostly it would mess with my hard disk and lock me up.

Gator found us another room over on a CRV site though that worked pretty well, so we all packed up and headed over to someone else's house (this reminds me a lot of high school).

From there it was a great night, spirits were flowing, Worm did his famous racoon dance, we shared deep personal information (Roll call: What's your VISA card number and expiration date?), and no one had to drive home. Of course, being scattered across 4 time zones, some of us cashed in earlier than others, who knows what time the Left Coast called it a night. :)

Oh yeah, we'd periodically bounce back here to try to drag members over - those of you that don't have your Private Message notification turned on will find some long lost invitations some time in the future...

So gang, that was fun - hey Daniel, we need to talk about dumping Conference Room and getting us a new Chat program - check out the one over on the CRV site, it's a nice piece of code...

P.S. We're expecting Tim to show up any time now :D

Well, I'm only a day and a bit behind. And I have so much wisdom and antecdotal info to pass on...ok, I'll catch the next one, eh?

Sorry I missed it!

Rob
Hey guys, sorry I missed the party. And sorry for the chat software not working     . My todo list just got a new item ;) .
admin,

A few of us got into javachat OK. I was using the full version and it worked. Here's one thing that's odd: the system defaults to username=mdxguest5 (or something similar to that) regardless of who's logging in and how many people are there. Even when additional people go in, everyone gets mdxguest5 as the default name. While you can /nick once you're in, there's a password popup indicating the error and duplicate names for ensuing users.

It was smooth when it used to pass our .org nicks over to the chat s/w. Doesn't do that anymore...

On a positive note, the chat was a lot of fun! We had all the coasts (and the middle) covered, and I enjoyed my last night of @home service, which was unplugged @ about 2am. I'm on a rusty old dialup now :(

For those who were there -- the critter in the chimney was not identified. It's either gone, or just doesn't smell bad yet...

DigitalMDX, Ard, and I closed the bar. We forgot we were squatting over @ the CRV board (thanks Gator) and Nan_Cali popped in to say hello...I asked "who are you?...don't recognize your moniker from the .org board...". After multiple "what? huh? whatchutalkinaboutwillis?" (and about 5 minutes), Nan figured out we were strangers and we remembered we were squatting.

:)
