Hello ALL-

I have a 2001 MDX Black on Ebony Touring and I am looking to either side steps or running boards for my X.

Before I was dead aim on getting the Acura running boards...however after some more thinking..it seems like the running board from acura is too plasticky for me and would scrape too easily and doesnt look as masculine for the vehicle.

I notice the Stainless steel MANIK side steps and looks really nice and thought that it will look NICE on the black touring. I think it will accent the stainless steel door handle and wheels.

Please let me know your thought on this.

Here are some pics of GatorGreg's with the Maniks. He posted these on his own site:

Fireblade - go with the Maniks, they'll look awesome. I like the way the complement the rest of the chrome.

Another route is to get the Acura OEM's and powdercoat them; you'll get the oval x-sec this way (pricey though). Do a search on Rail's side steps to see some pix of these.

I do want to warn you that several people on this forum have had cracked steps on their Manik sidesteps. I was almost going to get them myself and then decided against them because of the problem. Does anyone know if Manik has taken steps to correct this?

Here's another. I'd recommend them in spite of the little cracks. The cracks usually appear on the plastic around the screws (not the steel) and they aren't that big. Manik has apparently been replacing them no questions asked but I still haven't gotten around to it. The service guys at my dealer go nuts when they see my 'X with these steps and always want to know where I got them. They add a rebelliously elegant touch to the somewhat conservatively styled 'X IMO Plus they are functional :)

Hello All

I'm new to acuramdx.org and have enjoyed reading the different discussions and viewing the pictures.

I have an MDX/Touring (Black/Saddle) on order and it should arrive in March. The only accessory I'm having installed is the tow package and I will do the rest myself. I was going to order the Acura running boards, but I like the Manik Side Steps better.

Where can I purchase these from?

I will be compiling my list of accessories for HondaAcuraworld in a couple of weeks. The pics really gave me some good ideas.

MANIK fittings

Do anyone of you know if the MANIKS can be adjusted so that it has that snug look that the ACURA OEM Side steps provides?

I heard from some where that the MANIKS SS sticks out more that the original Acura side steps. Please advise.

Personally, I think sticking out a bit is better. My brother has the Acura side steps on his Mahogany, and I personally feel it's too close to the side of the car. When you step on it, you can only use the front part of your foot to lift your body up. I feel that it's easier for misstepping. I think the extra room the Maniks give, will give people that use it more leverage. Just my 2 cents.

They look OK on black too.

You're welcome!

Here's how they look on silver...

Fireblade, there's maybe a half inch of so of play in the brackets, I don't know if they'd ever look 'tucked in', as they're a little beefier than the OEM ones.

I adjusted mine out as far as they'd go, they give more footroom, and I like looking like a KC-135 coming in for a landing. :D

(Yes, I know KC-135's don't have side steps...)

Car looks tight!

Gatorgreg,

I have 02 Nighthawk and I'm thinking about putting chorome side steps as well. Your car looks tight and some of the doubts that I had are all gone after looking at your pics. Where did you get the steps and how much were they? Did you install them yourself? If not, how much did it cost you to install them?

You can call FRANK at California Auto Trends for the MANIK Stainless Steel side steps. The price is $367.00 for the set. Call him at 1-800-500-2404
