Hi,

My new '02 SS MDX should arrive this week, and I have been searching all over the country for a dealer that has the Manik Polished stainless side steps IN STOCK. I keep hearing that there's a 4-6 week backorder on these steps.

Any info would be most appreciated!

Thanks.

Dawn ours were on order for about 5-6 weeks. Bought them through Ultimate Truck Parts. They were drop shipped directly from Manik.

If you want the stainless steel/polished aluminum look like the wheels then you realy don't have much choice other than buying the Acura steps and having them powder coated. Total cost much higher.

Dean,

I called those folks the other day and they didn't have them in stock either. I guess I will just have to wait. Geez, anything that has to do with the MDX seems to take forever <g>.

Thanks for the heads up.

I got mine at California Auto Trends. Their number is 1 (800) 500-2404 in case you haven't already tried them yet. I guess they're on backorder cuz they make the 'X look awesome :p

Thanks for all the suggestions. It looks like the wait will only be 2-3 weeks instead of 4-6.

Can't wait to get the car. Should be here any day.

Yeah, that Gator is quickly getting more pictures of his 'X on this site than I have of mine - I'm gonna have to get busy... :D

Thanks, yeah I had a good laugh when I got home and saw that big tongue sticking out of my grill :p
BTW, I'm gonna be in your neck of the woods (Palm Beach) next weekend, so if you see me driving around give me a honk :) Also, try to make it to St. Augustine for the CR-V/MDX meet on Feb. 16th, should be lots of fun.

My husband said he would kill me if I did any off-roading with the X. I'll look for you in PB.

Dawn

P.S. How much would a car mechanic charge to install those side steps?

Not sure how much it would cost. I did mine myself and it was pretty straightforward. In fact, this is one job I'd recommend you do yourself, cuz you want to spend the time to do it right (to avoid scratching the stainless steel and seizing the bolts). As I recall, the only tools I needed to use were a socket set and a wrench. It would have helped to have another pair of hands. I'm sure you and your husband will have no trouble doing the install assuming at least one of you have full use of your arms and legs :p Be sure to do a search on the forum for eariler install reports for some helpful hints and things to watch out for.

As for off-roading, the MDX was engineered for "medium-duty off-road" capablilty, so tell your hubby that you won't be getting your money's worth if you don't take full advantage of the MDX's capabilities :p That said, I'm thinking of turning the St. Augustine event in Feb. into a more laid back affair with maybe some beach driving instead of just another mud fest. Stay tuned :)

I second that - it's a really easy install (just don't put them on backwards, as some forum members have done  ).

I bet you could get them done in an hour, including lots of admiring-your-work time. Click on my Manic link below - you'll see it's so easy a child could do it! :D

Hey Ghost, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dawn just use the word "NICE" in reference to YOUR pics, while she chose to describe MINE as "GREAT"? Not bad for a guy still using 20th century technology (webtv and 8mm camcorder), eh? :p I did finally break down and get a real computer for home and Santa might be bringing me a digital camera if I'm good :) BTW, did DMor help you install your Maniks? Just wondering cuz it looks a little crooked compared to mine :D

Yes, even though Ms. Dawn is new to the site, it is clear that she can discriminate who needs a bit more support from those of us that are comfortable with our MDX achievements :) - she'll be a great addition to the site. (Not to mention she has the great taste to go with the Manics...)

And come Christmas when you get your monitor out of 640 x 480 resolution (those Apple II's are notorious for distortion) , you'll see that the steps are perfectly aligned. :D

See you tomorrow, eh?

Actually Ghost, I'm currently running a pentium IV with a sony 17" monitor (picture is absolutely stunning btw) and I can even make out the dirt on your muffler :D Yeah, I'll try to make it to your party but I need to go to bed early that night so I can get up in time for the trip to Withlacoochee Saturday morning. Which reminds me, I better start charging up the old camcorder cuz I don't want to run out of batteries when I'm conquering the crater trail

If I can't make it to your party, happy birthday in advance :)
