Long term reliability

Just wondering what your experiences are on long term use for the mdx. Having gone past 30,000 miles is starting to be a concern. Experiencing 7 SRS resets, 5 visits for resolve a thud, Brake work (extremely noisy), transmission fluid burn out, and now having lots of clings and clangs everytime i accelerate, brake, go over a bump on top of accura's TLC (Total Lack of Care)makes me wonder what the future holds. I can only compare it to the prior 2 pathfinders i had (1997 and 2000) and it doesn't look good. I drove those pathfinders just past their 36,000 mile warranty and never had a problem with them, up to to the last day they were as silent as new.

jeych..Picked up my '02 black/touring yesterday and can feel that its going to be the best yet. I've had three Saabs(currently an '01 9-5)and the 1st two are going strong at 205k & 385k. I have high hopes that the X will be somewhere in the ballpark. I was thinking of the factory Acura warranty yesterday and tried to get the dealer to jump at an offer for a 7yr/100k for $900/$1000. There have been some posts the last couple of days about Acura warranties (7/100k) for $895 in LA and an offer of $800 in Delaware) My dealer about had a heartattack...said it couldn't be. . . He said he usually sells them for $1895 but would give it to me for $100 over his cost of $1325.

There are as many people who like the comfort factor of an extended policy as there are who say to put the $1400 in the bank and pay for a repair when the 4yr/50k is up. I know its not a Ford or Chevy but I'm thinking the CD changer could go out in 6 years and it would probably cost $500/600, or half of what the deaker wants now. I've seen a lot of old threads on this subject but am wondering what people are really paying now for the dealer genuine Acura extended Policy. Do you think the dealer was leveling with me that his cost was $1325 or is that the "invoice" price just like that of a car.

If you plan on keeping the X..I would try to get an extended policy.

ps..Put on the BSMs from Tim in about 15 min. today. Previous threads had great step by step directions and pictures.

Jeych,

Tap has written few weeks ago that he has passed 40K miles and his MDX is still feel like new. Besides the Thud and weep problems, it seems that all others may be the exceptions and yours probably is one of the few bad apples. I feel your frustations (I probably do the same). If I recall correctly, you are pushing through the lemon law process. How is it coming? With all the problems you are having, I think it would be nice if Acura at least throw in a free 7/100K warranty policy.

Fortunately, mine is problem free except one of the thud issue (the tube silencer). I knock on wood since this is my first Acura. All my friend Acuras ran well and were problem free for a long time. They strongly endorse/recommend Acura.
All I can say is......

I have a number of friends who own the first year (1999) redesigned Odyssey and many of them have had countless problems......So much for typical Honda reliability....I don't think I need to say much more. However, I've heard from people who own 2001 Odysseys and reliability seems to have substantially improved.....so it's really hard to tell
About my lemon law claim, is going pretty bad, typical ACURA Total Lack of Care. I got a call back pretty much saying It was my fault i never brought it to the attention of acura customer services. He had to eat what he had said when i cited a september 4 conversation I had with a rep. I also called a month after that to follow up on it and they told me they had no idea what i was talking about, It was then when I told them I would see them in court. A couple of days After the first call they called me to Offer some sort of "compensation for my time" and to scare me saying that the lawyer fees in such a procedure will cost me big. When i brought up that the state of Washington will make the carmaker cover any "reasonable lawyer fees" he proceeded to state that i was wrong (which i was not). Sad that it took a lawyers letter to get some sort of reaction from this piece of S*** company. And not even then a possitive reaction. BUYER BEWARE.
