It's 2017 (July 6th to be specific)- and I'm seeking a proven, reliable LED License Plate light bulbs replacement RECOMMENDATION for my 2009 MDX- while the two license plate LED bulbs that I had installed (in no less than a horrendous, regrettably quite memorable 8 hours or less back in 2010 mind u) lasted a good seven years, they're now starting to flicker, and I'm seeking a recommendation that won't be too insanely bright (some of these license plate bulbs on some cars these days look like headlights!!! way too bright)- at the same time I don't like dull boring, weak LED's,...looking for something that's BRIGHT, clean, CRYSTAL clear white bright (not screaming 'I NEED ATTENTION bright'!), but it should be brighter/better than the ones made in 2010 (which still beats the ugly YELLOW stock bulbs hands down, but are still not as bright as more recent LED license plate bulbs that you see on the road these days)?....:nerd:

Any suggestions please? (to all those 2007-2013 MDX owners with LED license plate bulbs installed)- please provide make/model of products and/or actual link's/URL's? (and even better yet, any PICTURES if you have any?!)

Hopefully during my near future, 2nd time around (installing these LED license plate bulbs) I can do it faster than the approximate 8 grueling hours it took me back in 2010- when I was a young buck, still in my 20's?! :crying2:

I haven't replaced mine yet, so I'm just checking. Are the size 168/194 wedge type?
I believe they're 194/T3-1/4 (miniature wedge base)

I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on a pair of these (to replace my existing 8 year old flickering license plate LED bulbs on my 2009 Acura MDX):

194 LED Bulb (5 SMD LED Tower Miniature Wedge Retrofit)
Part Number: 194-xHP5-CAR
BULB TYPE: 194/T3-1/4 (miniature wedge base)
Natural 4100K
360 degree beam angle (5 LED's per bulb)
$4.95 (each)

really hope that these bulbs (middle bulb in picture below) fit into the 2nd gen. MDX license plate bulb compartment areas?!:

I just did my license plate led lights last night, with basic T10 wedge led. They look similar to the one you posted. Most of the lighting will come from the top head of the bulb. The side leds does contribute a bit, but doesn't help much. So to get a brighter look, I'm searching for T10 wedge base led, that are brighter, or has more smd led on the top side. Plus you can't put in something longer or it'll touch the clear lens cover.

I'm willing to give this one a try.

Get the Phillips 194/T10 bulbs, You only need a single down facing LED. Those 360* LEDs will get to waste because the Licence Plate light bases do not have a reflective shield they are counting on the down facing light emission of the incandescent bulb to light up the licence plate so you only need a LED that shoots a focused light.

The Philips 194/T10 Bulbs are your best bet, I got mine and they light up very nicely in fact they are powerful enough to light up the street which is not needed. They look as OEM LED licence plate lights as you can get and they have a 12 year warranty IIRC.

Price is for 1 you will need 2 of those and make sure you select the 194/T10 variant not the 194 only ones.

If you want night pictures I can get them tonight.

(Philips 127916000KB2 Vision LED Car Lamp, 194 LED / T10 White 6000K, 2 Pack)

Okay just need it to get dark here but will post them tonight if possible.
Consequently those are the same bulbs I used for my complete LED interior upgrade.. Philips make those in all the sizes we need except for the ones in the doors.

Had a few spare 194 bulbs from the interior kit I bought (which while inside the car, have performed decently) and threw them on the license plate. Didn't last too long.

Swapped them out for these:
https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-194-White-Bulb-Contains/dp/B01A77UIKW

On sale for $3.99 each now. Very impressed with color and visibility. So far, so good. Just threw them in a few months ago.

nice, what bulb sizes are the reverse lights? I want them now
Philips 921 Reverse Lights
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Bright-White-Vision-Back-up/dp/B00P2D41OQ?th=1
They light up pretty well against OEM but don´t expect a mind blowing difference for the Reverse Camera...

Stupid reverse light design in our 2G MDX makes the light shoot up horizontally from its own plane so instead of having light in the road like it should you got light shooting up in a straight line from the tailgate to the rear air instead of the ground.

Here you go, Philips 194/T10 performance as License Plate Bulbs..
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-127916000KB2-Vision-White-6000K/dp/B017VORB7M

These were shot at little before Dusk:

These were shot at 9:30pm (Dark):

Lights are strong enough to light up the street, Trust me the license plate is fully covered and shines like many new OEM LEDs Applications.. Looks Awesome.

iPhone color balance might be off a lil bit perhaps in the previous photos but the Bulbs are 100% Pure White, Unaltered White.. No bluish hint or orange (ala incandescent) hint, Just Pure White:

Hope this helps you decide folks! Lights are Philips 194/T10 Single LED Bulbs.

I have the following setup in Philips 194/T10 bulbs;
1.- License Plate x2
2.- Front Map Lights x2
3.- Rear Map Lights x2
4.- Front Parking Lights x2 (You can spot them in the picture below, They are the same tone as the XB35 5500KV Bulbs so it looks matched at night):

Thank you (again!) Mr Skirmich for the pics (above)!!!!

Philips bulbs look PERFECTO......I think I'm sold! :29:

My anticipated install date will be around the end of this month- I'm taking an extended weekend off from from work to handle this light bulb swap as I'm still slightly traumatized from the nearly whole day it took me about 7 years ago to swap out the OEM (2nd gen. MDX) license plate bulbs, replacing them with LED's- all by myself :crying2:

Your welcome!
Yeah installation is a pain, But you will get the feel of it.. I installed my bulbs at the Autozone parking lot with a philips and flat screwdriver. The hardest part is to pop the plastic trim covering the license lights because it feels very brittle and fragile, That is why that 12 year warranty makes the most sense no need to do this again if the bulbs are warranted for that long.

Well since I know that you're proven to be mechanically inclined and then some, I'm gonna assume that it took you about 15-20 minutes TOTAL to swap out the license plate bulbs on your 2nd gen. MDX, so if I multiply that approximation by about 20 (rough estimate/translation of your mechanical IQ :nerd: superiority compared to mine or lack thereof), then I should be able to complete this swap myself in just under 6 hours (which will still be a new personal record as it literally took my close to 8 hours of giving up, resuming, giving up, resuming back in 2010 when my last circa 2010 LED license plate bulbs were installed!). :|
