keyed

Some ******* (Edited by Acura4Life) just keyed my MDX in the parking deck where I work. Three big, deep scratches along the driver and rear driverside doors. Down to the primer. Both doors have to be painted.
Why do people do that? What possible benefit did this ******* (Edited by Acura4Life) hope to gain?
In this time of national crisis and unity don't people have more important things to worry about?

Feng, I'm hurting with you.

My first reaction was to install one of those small surveillance cameras in your truck, but let's face it, it's a bit parnoid.

I don't think there is any way to avoid bad things happening to your car, or in life for that mattter. i know you probably don't want this advice, but I say you scream/vent as hard as you can to get it out of your system (like posting here for example), get the door fixed and forget about it.

We all know it is just a matter of time until there will be scratches, dings, and bumps on our cars.
WELL I ALSO CAN BE ADDED TO UNFORTUNATE THREAD! MY MDX WAS KEYED TODAY AND ALSO TOOK IT ON THE DOOR BUT JUST ONE SIDE. MY FRIEND OWNS A BODY SHOP AND DOES ALOT OF WORK FOR HONDA AND TOLD ME THAT TO DO IT RIGHT HE RECOMENDS PAINTING THE FRONT FENDER, DRIVER DOOR (DAMAGED), BACK DOOR, AND REAR FENDER. ANOTHER WORDS THE WHOLE SIDE OF THE CAR.

REASON IS TO BLEND THE COLOR INTO THE OTHER PANNELS IS IMPOSIBLE. YOU WOULD SEE A BREAK IN COLOR IF JUST THE DOOR WAS DONE. I PLAN TO GO TO ANOTHER BODY SHOP TO GET A 2ND OPINION BUT IT SEEMS TO MAKE SENSE.

FENG I CAN FEEL YOUR PAIN AND I ALSO FEEL LIKE GETTING THIS ******** BACK IN A BIG WAY!
Well... I got my 'DX back from the "cosmetic repair center" last week. I have to say that I am very satisfied with the results. The color match is indistingiushable. The finish is very nice. I still see good "orange peel". There are a few minor imperfections (eg. hair in the clear or imperfect leveling) but you really have to get in close and study the panels to see them. I feel no overspray around edges. All in all I'm very satisfied.

As far as the blending is concerned, the key scratch started about 10 inches into to front door, and extended to about the mid-section of the rear door. The body shop was able to sand and paint the scratched areas and use the unscratched portions of the door panels to blend the color. Like I said above, I see no color mismatch. This way, I did not have to paint the front or rear quarter pannels. The less paint the better right? I'm told that if a scratch extends to the seam with another panel, then that panel has to be painted to help with blending.

Walking out of the supermarket a few days ago and saw this beautiful GG MDX parked next to mine. It's complete with all the exterior trim accessories and it was a lot cleaner than mine.

However, when I got to my car, I saw that someone has keyed this other X from front to back on the passenger side. Ooch!! This must have been an old job because there was nothing on my car. However, I felt the same anger and pain because my brand new Audi had gotten keyed before across the truck and down to the side panels years ago. Who are these malicious people anyway that has nothing better to do??

If someone can recommand a good paint repair shop in north Jersey, please let me know. Maybe I can leave a note on that X next time when I see it in the supermarket......and also take my Audi in for a face lift. Thanks.

Am sorry

Dave F.-

Am sorry to hear of your misfortune. Gawd!! Why do people do that?

Back in 1991 some bastard did that to my Acura Integra!

I believe that people are just jealous of your success and the rewards of your success- YOur MDX. Not too many folks out there can afford a car like you and I do. ESPECIALLY in NC.

For what its worth Dave, see if you can get an "AUTHORIZED" Acura autobody to repaint your vehicle. It is too nice of a vehicle to have a repaint job done half ass. I am pretty anal bout how the paint and the way my vehicle look cosmetically. Hope things will turn out well with your insurance and your repair.

Cheer up DAVE! Look at it from a brigher side, at least you dont have engine or tranny problems like a couple of our members here.

ouch!!! i feel your pain - my truck is less than 1 year, and I already had a broken passenger window, 2 flats, rear-ended the tree (self-iniflicted injury) and just a week ago some **** (Acura4Live did not comment this I did ;)) put a ding on driver's side rear door backing out or a cryon substituted for a key(!).
I'm probably going to live with it as there was no damage to the paint and it is not very noticable (after I spent 40 minutes removing it), but the pain was the SAME!
see my logo - that's my ideal protection suggestion!
if that's too extreme, how about hooking the "DX to a nearest voltage pole to give the **** a 'shoking' experience?! :D

another comment, parking in remote distances may sometimes cause more harm than good: a) it is easier for a thief to break into when less people are around; b) draws more unwanted attention to your car (combine with a); c) makes it more dangerous getting to the car at night - most of this is for commuter parking of course.
think what's more important? getting a few dings on the door or the other? the last point for daily commuters - sometimes it is wise to leave your car unwashed; leave some dirty towels in the open - I AM SERIOUS!!! and do not leave anything in the open like bags, packages, cds, cool gadgets even cheap ones... the best is to park next to a wall (making one side or even 2 inaccessible, park close but be careful)

my tactic (parking close to wall) helped capture the thief - he got stuck in the window!!!

sgt....LOL, sounds like a new Seinfeld episode....so what happened to the guy stuck in your window? And did you find him, or somebody else?

When I see a nice car I think... "what a nice car". I NEVER think "what an ******* (Edited by Acura4Life) who owns this nice car".

Just to trying to lighten up this unfortunate situation, your comment on seeing others with nice cars reminds me of the old Porsche joke. The difference between a porcupine and a Porsche?

The porcupine has the p**** on the outside.

I feel your pain, it is non-sensical and sometimes a little scary to think some people are walking around with that much aggression stirring in their veins.

yeah, i wish i could laugh at that time and the bastard was lucky I did not find him - it was a busy parking lot in downtown Brooklyn and parking attendant noticed him and called the police! When I arrived at around 8 pm all I saw was a police car and 2 officers dusting my poor Gigi for fingerprints. Never got to see the offender though (i posted my experience a while ago, actually it was around september 4-5 of last year(!))
Last summer I interned for a criminal judge. I would park my car in the same lot as all the attorneys and clerks. Every car in that lot got keyed at one time or another in broad day light. Someone intentionally side swiped the rear bumper of my mdx while parked with their pos bucket. I was fortunate that it was just a scrape on the bumper that was easily fixed. We should all make a pact that if we ever witness someone terrorizing a car beat the **** out of them regardless if the car is yours or not.
New Group Buy

Maybe we can get Tim to start a group buy on those flame throwers that they install under the cars in South Africa. Did anyone else see that 20/20 special (probably 9 months back) about car jacking in S. Africa? People actually install flame throwers that ignite when thieves try to break in to the car. Obviously a little extreme, but when your car gets keyed, you certainly feel some need for revenge.

What do you think Tim? Any in inventory?
