How'd folks!

I've been a passive reader for the past few months, but
it was time to break that, once I owned THE X!! :^)

My order wasn't due for another month or two, but my dealer
called me up on Sat. to ask if I was interested in a Mahogany
'X (not my initial choice) that someone had passed up. I wasn't
sure about the color (we wanted a Mesa biege) and went thru'
some very anxious moments, but several pix' posted on this
forum by proud mahogany X owners got us really curious.
So, we drive 130 miles to Sacramento (from the Bay Area) on
a very cold-n-rainy Sunday to this dealership to check it out.
After a thorough test drive, we were simply impressed (my
wife just adored the color); so we got down to dealing with
the sales guy.

As expected, I wasn't able to deal on the price (MSRP) for
the touring package, but there was absolutely NO pressure
to buy any accesories or that protective coating thingie that
we've heard so often!! So, I bargained with them to throw in
a few accessories for free. After a few back-n-forth offer/counter
offers with the sales guy's boss, I managed to get the rear
splash guards, wheel locks and all-season floor mats included
for that price. I thought that was an improvement over what
we've seen so far. Wonder what you guys think about this
deal......

The drive back home last nite was just fabulous and exciting!
The checklist posted by MesaBeige and AcuraDrvr were quite
useful as well. Thanks to all!

Congrats! The first day is pretty exciting. Mahogany is a nice color, certainly different and not as common on the streets. My brother has Mahogany, and didn't get the Silver because he already had a silver Passat. But definitely one of the nicest colors.

Congratulations giveMyMDX!

From what I have read over the past few months on the threads any freebies thrown in with MSRP is a good deal.

I will be getting my SS X in a few weeks. A month ago I saw my first mahogany parked near my office and it was beautiful. Called my dealer to see about availabilty but he said the color was being discontinued and he had placed his last orders for them and they were all taken.

You know the more X's I see on the road the more I think all the colors look great!

Thanks! It does indeed feel great to be an 'X' owner finally.
Keep trying with your dealer for the Mahogany, even though
it's being discontinued by end-March; you never know who
might pass up.

I have a couple of questions....

(a) Does anyone know why Mahogany is being discontinued?
(b) If you're from Calif. what did you pay the dealer for DMV
licence/reg? I was billed $295 for that and $45 for doc prep.....

Good job!

GiveMyMDX,

Anyone who gets an MDX for MSRP and gets anything other than a set of keys thrown in made themselves a great deal. You fall in that category.

Enjoy your MDX. They are truly wonderful vehicles.

Give Your MDX... :D

Congratulation!!!!!!!

Yup, I am sure you got the good deal.

It is hard to get accessories FREE for MDX. I wish I was that lucky like you.

But it is lucky we have TIM to give us good deals on the accessories. ;)

Hi, JTM , I am on a waiting list at Hopkins Acura, and that was my color choice too. I was never told why, except that's what Honda does it on a cyclic basis. Guess they don't need a reason, probably a marketing decision, which is off target.

The lic/reg. and doc fees are identical to the ones itemized on my deposit receipt if I take delivery.

Another Bay Area Owner

Congrats! I remember my drive from Santa Rosa's Prestige Acura several months back, and how glad we were to have purchased the X. We did order the Mesa Beige because my wife loved the color. However, from what I have seen of the Mahogany, you have not gone wrong! At this point, the X is the king of mid-sized unibody SUV's! Great choice!

Color choice changes

I guess one reason for the cycling of colors might be so that not too many of the same color get out on the roads.

Congratulations on your new MDX and welcome to the forum!

Yes ... you got a great deal with the accessories thrown in. Did they install them too? Did they list them on the invoice (for warranty purposes)? I presume you dealt with Niello - how was the overall experience? How long was your wait?

The fees are pretty standard - as long as the doc fees are reasonable. The DMV fees are some percentage of the purchase price and are usually collected by the dealer.

Enjoy your ride!

Thanks everyone, for all the encouraging words; it does
indeed feel good owning an X! (save for the buyers
guilt one typically goes thru' right after buying something
major--my last new car purchase in '95 was a Civic!!)

hansm-X:
The rear-splash guards & the wheel locks came pre-
installed. I'm yet to pick up the all-season floor mats.
These didn't figure in the final sales contract (there were
no specific areas to include). Nevertheless, all 3 were
documented in the preliminary paperwork I signed off
with the sales guy (have copies of). I'm not sure how
any warranty coverage would work on these items.

My overall experience at Niello was pretty good, save for
a bad incident with the finance guy (who later apologized
for his lousy behavior). There was no pressure to add on
any accesories, extended warrantees, protective coating,
etc. Perhaps they wanted to go home soon on a cold &
rainy Sunday late evening.

Read my original post (in this thread) re. the wait.....

You still get good deal. :) My dealer only throw the wheel locks on my X free. I have to buy rest of accessories by myself. If you have those accessories list on your signoff sheet, normally its warranty is same as the car. In this case, it means 4years/50K.

Congrats! My wife and I had the same experience. We originally wanted Mesa Beige as well, and ended up with the Mahogany. Well, it has been 6 months now, and we love the Mahogany! A little hard to keep clean (why we wanted the beige in the first place), but it is much nicer in the sun.

BTW, my favorite mod is the rear tailgate deflector (leave it black) - makes the MDX look much more like an SUV than a minivan.

Thanks, anumdx.

As told earlier, I was quoted MSRP for the touring package
(no forced accesories or extended warranties etc.) The $$
value of the 3 minor accessories thrown in for free, though
pales in comparison with the total price of the X. I didn't
go for any dealer offered financing, so am unaware of their
rates. Credit unions give around 5.5% for those with a good
rating.

It really is interesting to see you too go thru' similar
experiences with the color choice. The more I keep
looking at it, the more I seem to enjoy it. :^) The dust
that seems to settle shows and I have to keep it clean
often. Perhaps, like someone else pointed out, *any*
of the colors offered would look great on the X!!

BTW, thanks for the tip on the tail-gate deflector.
Did you get it from Tim's and install it yourself and
if so, how easy is it to do?

Vicarious Thrills!

Who in the bay area sold you your X? Also what color did you end up getting? Did you get the Nav?

I'm sharing your excitement!
