Wow I am sure some of you have seen prototype pictures of this new model. A buddy of mine who is a real porsche buff sent me this link. He is absolutely excited about the introduction of Porsche into the SUV marketspace in 2002-03. Porsche and VW have decided to team up and build this baby to compete with the X5 and the MLs...nope no word on the MDX anywhere. Thought you would get a kick out of this .. . the only thing it will be missing is wings and a tail.:D

Specs to date:

Model: Porsche Cayenne (pronounced ki-ann, meaning "spice" in various languages)

Vehicle Type: Front-engine, four-wheel drive, four-door SUV.

Engines: 340hp normally aspirated and 450hp twin-turbo V8s

Transmission: 5-speed automatic or semi-automatic

Base model's price: $60,000+

At first glance as well as the prototype kinda looks like a cross between a Beetle, the IS300, and a Boxster on steroids riding on Rancho Suspension. . .LOL:p :p :p :D
Yeah and the engine options....

quite amazing, a turbo, and a future v10, incredible , looks like a turbo turtle though, LOL. So how may MDX will one of the V10 buy I wonder???? Will Porshe finally have a vehicle that can handle more than a handcarry suitcase. Love the GT2 and and all the other Porshe, classic or new, but this one--don't know even the name has little to be desired.
I luv Porsches! But, I think it is a disgrace that Porsche is about to come out with an SUV(which is basically a souped up VW). To me Porsche has always been, and always should be a sports car co. It is about making lightweight sports cars/coupes that make driving one of their cars a form of enterntainment. I seriously doubt the Porsche SUV is going to be lightweight. It goes against the philosophy of Ferdinand Porsche(the father of the beetle). I realize that Porsche wants to take advantage of their recent success, but if they really wanted to expand, couldn't they expand into the sports sedan category? I would think that would be the appropriate first step for them.

anyways, just my 2 cents.:(
But isn't the MDX nothing more than a souped up Honda? a Honda accord on stilts, a Odyssey mini-van with different sheet metal. Not a real truck/SUV? If Honda can do it, so can Porsche.

ahh lester, you are such a funny and entertaining guy!

btw, i am still trying to get over your JOKE about the ML320 4-wd being the "best in the world" :D

patiently awaiting your rebuttal...

cya(wouldn't wanna be ya):D
I think it has a interesting and original look from the front (the rear view isn't much, but better than the box of the ML). Good for Porsche, I say. I'm sure it will be a kick to drive and give the X5 4.4 some much needed competition

The MDX is only as good as it is because of all the SUVs that have come before it. I welcome all the competition and innovation. I drove a 944 back in '85 and have always wished Porsche well. Used to feel the same way about Mercedes until Lester89 started posting.
It sounds like this machine will be competition for the ML55, ML500 and X5 4.6i even more than the X5 4.4i. Given that price structure, I doubt many people will cross-shop it with the MDX...
Porsche purists are not amused
(ANOTHER @#$%^ SUV)
