Last night I pulled the front dome light / Sunglass holder out to see what kind of room was up there for mounting a radar detector, etc. After pulling the overhead light unit down, on the back of this thing, etched in the plastic, is a giant "LX".

Question #1. Any idea what "LX" this is from? I looked at the Civic LX on the MSN 3D surround bubble view and that didn't match. Any ideas?

Question #2. The middle dome light housing (over the rear seats)... has anyone removed this? The screws holding the dome light in are torqued down like they are holding the roof on the MDX. Are these screws only for the dome light or are they holding something else like the moonroof motor?

Dunno about the LX designation.

Re: rear lights: Manual sez just 2 screws, only holding the light mount (nothing else). Does appear that it's into metal, however. Shouldn't be a problem.*

Why not try installing in place of the coin holder or right underneath in the storage area? Is it too low? Great access to wires from down there.

I think I figured out the LX question. It appears to be from the Accord LX. Have a look and see what you think...

The designs are similar. But, the Honda is missing the HomeLink buttons as in the MDX. The overall basic design is similar across Honda and Acura, though.

My TL and MDX use the same overhead console, with HomeLink, etc.

There are many similarities between these two vehicles.

Thanks for the info. The homelink piece of the puzzle actually just snaps out (The cover and the buttons, not the electronics) so I can see where they would put just a blank plug for the other models.

I would like to get another overhead console to play with for modification purposes and am wondering which would be the cheepest and easiest to order or locate at a parts house.

Great Idea

If you have seen "Wayne's World" you will know what I'm talking about. Remember in the gremblin there was a liquorish dispenser hanging from the ceiling. That would be a great replacement for the sunglass holder/dome light. You can even modify it so there is a backlight behind the liquorish. Just throwing some ideas at you to see what sticks. If you need any more great ideas don't hesitate to ask.

The Coke dispenser is a good idea. I forget, was the Coke dispenser also from "Wayne's World"? I need to get photoshop, then I'd get no work done at all. The Coke dispenser is blocking the rear view mirror. If the Coke was replaced with Crystal Pepsi then that should fix the rear view mirror problem. Its clear!

Hmm...I have never seen a Sunglass holder in my X.
Is this only for the older model?
