29.7 mpg on my new 2017 MDX on a 200 mile trip. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Is this surprising? I thought the FWD was rated to that?
Since OP didn't specify If that is the SH-AWD model then WoW!

Best I can get out of my 07 @ 60mph is:

Not to be a wet blanket but did you actually take that picture traveling 60 mph?

Impressive. Speed, load and driving conditions?

Speed between 60 and 80,
Almost all on a freeway
Load I would say lite - 3 people with couple of full bags

All on cruise control, ACC and LKAS. I rarely touched the brakes or accelerator. Most of the cruise was set at 74mph.
Couple of pull overs for gas and snack.

It's FWD. So yeah it would be a littler better than SHAWD

Do the FWD versions have VCM and the start/stop?

I'm not sure about VCM. But it doesn't automatically stop the engine when you brake at lights if you are asking that. It does in advance model but not the basic one.

Two weeks ago I got 24.9 mpg from PGH to Emerald Isle, NC with a "full load" and a Sears X-20 Cargo container on the roof. This was in a 2014 with Sh-AWD (Tech). Quite a bit better than the 16-18 mpg on similar trips with our '06 MDX and same car top carrier.

Back in June, we got a little over 27 mpg from PGH area to Bilger's rocks in Clearfield Co, PA (lots of hills, etc.) and I was very happy with that on that drive. Avg. speed was probably 50 mpg though. This was all trip computer and no hand calcs.
