Or strutted (sp)?,

I brought my 01 MDX into three different dealers, 1 in HI., 2 in TX., over the past 8000 miles in reference to a vibration felt at 60 and above mph only to betold that the prior factory or dealer didnt balance the tires correctly. Today I brought it to the one and only Acura dealer in the state of Mississippi which happens to be 2 hours from where I live, only to find out that it is not the wheels which need rebalancing as of yet until they can determine if the vibration continues after they replace the 3 yes Three blown shocks, two front and pass side rear. I was told to keep driving it since there would not be a problem because I have been riding around on them for the past 16K miles.

I guess I shouldnt type the words regarding my distaste for Acura as a whole even though customer service was reassured me that they were documenting my concerns.

I feel as though I spent 40K on a Acura badged YUGO suv!. I am sorry for the venting but this is ridiculous.

Tim or anyone else with any info that may help me out here?

Problems

Sorry to hear all your troubles with your mdx, but in my opinion the dealer are only as good as their employees. I don't believe it is the shocks, I think they don't know what is causing your problems and they are just replacing parts till they hit the right one. It isn't right but believe me one who comes from a history of 20 years behind dealer repair shops. You have to find someone who can pinpoint your problem or replace your vehicle, I would go back to the dealer you purchased and contact the regional manager for your region. He will be able to get the right mechanic on top of your problem.

Thanks for the info.

I would contact my original dealer but he is in Hawaii and the US. Army figured I spent enough time there and shipped me to Hattiesburg Mississippi.

The dealer (one and only in the whole state) in Jackson Mississippi, did show me where each shock / strut was leaking from the top. I guess I have no recourse right now other than letting them fix this problem first then hope that is the cure to all ills. I am on the other hand concerned as to what other premature suspension / driveline this may cause.

I'm not exactly sure what I can help with here. The leaking shocks aren't going to do any suspension damage, if that's what you are wondering. I'm assuming that your MDX is driveable, by which I mean that you aren't bottoming out on bumps or nosediving in turns or on stops.

Since you *did* ask for my input, if you are otherwise pleased with your 'X, give this dealer a chance to work it out and leave it with them until they get it right. They'll be more apt to do it quickly if you're in their loaner. Remember, it's a top-notch vehicle, but it's still a vehicle, and nothing man-made is perfect no matter how much we like to believe otherwise. My personal opinion, since you asked.

The important thing is that the problem will be (hopefully) solved.

Thank You

Thanks for the comments, I will let them fix it until they get it right, the wife and I do enjoy the MDX and I suppose I just needed to vent regarding the situation.

Looking on the brightside though, we still get lots of looks since we have only seen one other MDX in the Hattiesburg area.

I will keep you all posted on the status.

Hi from Jackson

Nxtr06,

We saw 2 in Jackson last weekend (a Mesa Beige and a Silver). We haven't seen another RedRock Pearl (like ours) or GG in Mississippi. We'll keep our eyes open for you next time we pass through Hattiesburg.

Conrad Smith in JACKSON

The only other one I have seen is a 02 in white here in Hattiesburg. I will keep an eye out for your RRP. Look for my GG as well since I have to come up to Jackson for Dealer support.

Shocking -- But New Shocks Can be Bad

Most interesting, 3 failed shocks:

(1) I doubt that the shocks are physically made by Honda so really "not their fault" [assuming that this is not a big time issue with lots of vehicles]. I am sure that Tim would have shared with us if his dealership was "ordering and replacing lots of shocks" on Xs. I wonder how many "bad shocks" were made [betcha that it came from a batch with a problem -- eg shock oil had impurities, ....].

(2) Might not be so surprising that the dealer missed the shock problem in the beginning. If your problem is really a 1 in a big number, then they would not have logically looked there in the beginning! I would have gone for balance, out of round tire, out of round rim, bent rim, .... before looking at brand new shocks!!
