Thanks gentlemen.
Between 4500-5000 RPM for VTECH to activate is not for normal driving. To get that kind of RPM you to floor the fad pedal.

Pull a speed sensor plug from the input shaft sensor on the transmission. You’ll get a check engine light and VTEC won’t engage.

VTEC engages only if certain criteria are met.

  • Coolant temp above a certain level
  • Oil pressure at or above certain level
  • Throttle position above certain percentage
  • Vehicle speed above certain threshold
If the ECU can’t see vehicle speed, it won’t engage VTEC.

Then the OP can unplug the pressure sensor near the oil filter to disable the vtec?

I’d stick with non-critical components. You never want to see the oil light on the gauge cluster come on so leave that there. Plus, that plug is a pain to remove even with the engine out. The input shaft sensor is on the front of the transmission with easy access.

I had my KTuner set to activate Vtech at 2000rpms in any gear. Trust me, Vtech makes a big difference in both power and engine sound.

Interesting, where can I find more information on Ktuner for the 2G/2.5G MDX?
I got my KTuner, Jpipe, Cat deletes etc. from there, the owner stands behind their products and always answers your questions.
