You're really asking two questions...

The first is "what EQUIPMENT is needed to get video to the navi screen" and the answer du jour is that the folks at street effectz have gotten a unit that provides the functionality of the discontinued Pioneer converter/adapeter. They just posted a thread about it.

THe second question is "how do I help the installer closest to me understand how to do this" -- simple answer: DON't BOTHER!

If they want this kind of business (the more technically challenging work of INTEGRATING/ADAPTING factory OEM stuff with aftermarket) they will learn it on their own. Either with cars the own, cars or friends, or even in a professional 'school' they can get skilled in this. Don't bother letting them 'learn' on your MDX!

Find somebody who has done this before, don't be guinea pig! A messed-up $40K MDX is NO FUN!

Funny You Ask...

I just got back my X last night with my video install, using a converted Pioneer GEX-P7000TV, a Pioneer AVD-W-6010 and a Blauplunkt DVD-ME1 player. I think Ron at Streeteffects posted here that he can do the conversion necessay to make the navi display.

Check out this thread:

There's alot of info at the acura-tl forum:

http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=41508&highlight=gex

Also check out the clublexus forum for info:

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47722&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

I think Vlad on the Clublexus forum also posted a schematic on the install.

Haven't had a chance to really play with mind yet, but so far loving how it works. Good luck.

amazent,
who converted your p7000tv and how much did it cost. Im thinking of purchasing that same item. How much did you originally pay for your p7000tv, and who installed it for you???

MDX31,

I purchased the P7000TV and W6010 from a friend. The conversion was done by VideoNavi on the ClubLexus forum. His posts says he will convert your P7000TV for $120.

My install was done by Custom Auto in Oakland. Great people!!!!

Ask more question if your want. I'm sorry I can't post any pictures for a few weeks, my camera in for repair.

Going to the 9/28 Napa meet?

Mine was done using AVC-RGB1, pretty much discontinued and hard to find though. The Pioneer GEX-P7000TV is pretty much the way to go.
