Nothing "weird" about the acronyms for Honda. They ALL stand for something
CR-V - Compact Resource Vehicle
MR-V - Multipurpose Resource Vehicle
HR-V - Hybrid Resource Vehicle.

Acura is different in their thinking and use of Acronyms.
Acura uses the "X" to denote eXperience .
So for the following vehicle:
MDX - Medium Duty (vehicle) Xperience.
NSX - Nippon Supercar Xperience.
RSX - Racing Sport Xperience.:8:
