Here's one thing you should know about, I found out today that the design engineering staff at American Honda that are closely associated with the MDX are frequent visitors of http://www.acuramdx.org!

So don't think that your comments, questions, and posts about the MDX are just going out into space. They are being read by people that matter and what you say may actually influence future designs.

That's a good news since more or less our opinions would affect to their thoughts. I hope this web site will be a
good feedback to Honda-Acura about all the aspects of their
products and service.

Acura News from Designers?

If the Acura Design Engineers read the newsgroup, it sure would be nice to have one of them give us feed back and info about our likes and dislikes. I would like to know if Acura would sell the Navigation Option they have in Japan for Hondas wiht GPS. It Sells for about $600 and plugs into the Navi System so you could receive EMail.

With THAT in mind.....

Dear Honda/Acura,

I have owned nearly a dozen Honda/Acura vehicles. I STILL own a 1991 Acura NSX. I have been VERY satisfied with EVERY 'Honda' I've owned. What bothers me is that I am NO LONGER comfortable in 'your' cars. Lately - it seems - you have designed your cars [the SEATS, in particular] for SMALLER people. There is not nearly enough leg support and the backs of the seats are far too narrow. I am a big guy [6'3" tall and about 240 lbs] which MIGHT lead you to believe that it's ME and NOT the 'seats' that is causing 'MY' problem - but I was exactly the same size [probably a bit FATTER] when I bought my FIRST Honda. [a 1982 Honda Civic 1500GL]

BIG GUYS SIT in cars differently. It is impossible to drive with our [MY?] knees together. I like to let my legs RELAX and be supported by BOTH the door AND the center console. Unfortunately - THIS is NOT [obviously] something that 'YOU' take into consideration. More often than not - the console [in particular] 'digs' into my leg. The console SHOULD be designed FOR a leg.

Another pet peeve has to do with the armrests. IF I designed a chair with a narrow LEFT armrest and a wide RIGHT armrest AND didn't even bother to make sure that BOTH of these armrests were level with each other - YOU [and most others] would PROBABLY think that I have NO IDEA of how to design a chair. YET - this is something that Honda/Acura [and most other car companies] do ALL THE TIME. Where is the logic in THAT??? One of the reasons I'm so comfortable in my NSX is BECAUSE the armrests are level with each other. [just like they SHOULD BE] They are ALSO LOW ENOUGH to actually USE. In many cars the armrests are FAR TOO HIGH.

For years I've wanted to park ANOTHER Acura next to my NSX. This is probably WHY I bought the MDX. I was so excited by the fact - I guess - that Acura FINALLY made a 'car' with a moonroof that I could sit in. It's unfortunate that I had to OWN the MDX [for a short while] before realizing that it, TOO, was yet another 'made for smaller people' Acura.

Do yourselves a favour. Go to ANY K-MART in the U.S. or Canada and LOOK at the people you're trying to build a car for. Most people are NOT short and skinny. In fact - obesity is on the rise. People are getting fatter by the minute. Younger people - generally speaking - are not only FATTER but TALLER then the generation that came before them. People are getting BIGGER.

If you wish to increase your market share - even further - start making cars [once again] that suit EVERYONE - NOT just people smaller than ME!!

Thank you,
Craig

Yes they are checkin' up

Its common sense that Acura or Honda people are constant browsers of this site. This has tremendous info useful to them regarding their product. From initial quality issues, buying experience, actual owner feedback, complains, first yr production problems, performance satisfaction, future model's upgrade wishes, etc.......

This is such a useful tool for them to further improve and develop their SUV hit. That's good.

On a side note, I had an opportunity to participate in an MDX initial production quality focus group meeting and was very fortunate to be picked by Acura R&D people as a typical market study and offered me to pursue another interview meeting at my house. It was really cool and fun experience talking to the people behind the successful MDX. I'm really surprised others that participated never posted a thread about it. And yes they asked me what MDX websites I constantly check out....I said 'ACURAMDX.org', so you think they're checking us - you bet!

i am not as big as canadacraig, but i must agree with everything he said. cars these days are made for smaller people (especially japanese cars) i wonder if it has to do with smaller average size of japanese people , though i say this only from experience, not from any facts i have read about average size of various nationalities.

the bottom line is that i am more comfortable in the behemoth known as the MDX than any other car i have ever driven. (but there is room for improvement)

How about we provide an improve list for the future, keeping it simple. List out your most-wanted improvement to the MDX. I'll start:

HIDs, at least make it an option...

:32: Yep, my first choice, too.

Dear Santa,
Please reduce the height and bulk of the center console and give me a height adjustable pull-down armrest on both driver and passenger seats.
Your pal,
Lug

How about automatic locking doors, a locking button by/inside the rear hatch, rear opening glass window, one touch/push sun roof open and close and a tissue dispenser by the driver (yes I had the missfortune of owning an Explorer). :1:

Maybe after seeing all these posts on the Maniks they decided to chrome the side steps.
Maybe HIDs will be next? How about a reliable transmissions, etc. ?
Well, they do have a different tranny for 03 which may be a lead in for future models....time will tell.
IF they are 'watching' this forum, Acura employees who are forum members better be on their best behavior............

Imagine going home after a long day at work, and getting on a forum like this for some stress relief, and find out your company is monitoring it. Depressing thought....

What I want to know is......who placed the ad I keep seeing at the top of the forum pages "200 HP @ 56K - Acura OwnerLink"????

Was that paid for by ACURA/Honda? If so, they MUST be checking us out!

Admin? Can you confirm who placed this ad?

Size Does Matter

Speaking of cars getting smaller, I have hit my head numerous times on the open MDX hatch - and it hurts!:(

If Acura really is watching this site, PLEASE fix this or else I will have to start wearing a special loading and unloading helmet.

I hope Acura matches Volvo XC90's additional safety features:
head curtain bags, roll stability control to prevent a rollover, boron steel reinforced roof to able to tolerate crashes onto the roof, and the whiplash protection system to reduce neck whiplash injuries. While we love our just picked up 2003 MDX Navi/RES, I already let my Acura Dealer know that for my next future vehicle, those additional safety features are a must.

It is defintely true that Honda of America monitors ALL the Acura forum pages. I am a frequenter of both Acura-CL.com and Acura-TL.com and check in on acuramdx.org once in a while, as we are all members of that bigger Acura family. Much of what we moaned about on Acura-CL.com on the 2001/2 CL's were changed for '03. We relentlessly complained about our wimpy 'road lights' that are yellow 5 watt marker lights. Gone for '03. We complained about not having a manual tranny. One appears for '03. We complained about easily scratched wheels. Wheels redesigned for '03. Mot striking of all, we posted a photoshoped picture of half clear tail lights on a CL. One year later they are in production. Spooky.
