hiya,
been reading for a while but i finally decided to join when i read that merc ml vs mdx thread... which was starting to annoy me a little.
some background: i have a merc 2002 c-coupé 230k and a 2001 bmw 325xi wagon. i've owned a '95 acura integra LS (i really loved that car and the local dealership is great), '99 soobie forester L. these cars are part of my MDX story.
we had the integra and the forester and as we were expecting a baby, we decided to get something a little larger than the forester. and as i loved my acura and the dealership, i wanted to get the MDX. i mentioned this to my in-laws and they tell me that they too want an SUV (why, i don't know.) and they go get one!
now, they did this to me before. i told them i wanted to get a small suv and i hear good things about soobie forester, and then they go get one before i do! and they also have a camry which their son has so there is a history of that family of getting the same cars. as sort of an outsider, i had to break the pattern. and, unfortuneately, the MDX had to be it. we ended up getting the 325 wagon b/c the space was similar to the soobie forester and we couldn't find a decent SUV that i really liked. the merc ML, i really really dislike it (quality/styling). the X5, nice but expensive and the space is very small. the RX300, wasn't crazy about the styling but i hear its a good car.
in the end, we're hoping that the in-laws realize that the 2 of them do not need an MDX and just give it to us (or sell it to us cheap) but it is wishful thinking. they really love the car.
so that's my MDX story. in 2 years, when our lease on the BMW runs out, we will revisit the SUVs.
