Got mine in two
Hey Texas,
I began the search for an SUV to replace my F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 about a month and a half ago when I was offered a new job that would require me to travel a lot.
Once I decided the MDX was most likely for me, my goal was to find one to test drive.
I used the internet to read reviews and narrowed it down, sort of, to several models. The MDX was not in my initial thought process, simply because I thought it was out of my price range.
I drove the Tahoe, Grand Cherokee, TrailBlazer, Envoy, and 4Runner. None of them really reached out and grabbed me, but all were good in their own ways.
Once the details of my new job were worked out, my car allowance was such that it would allow me to look "up" in my SUV search. Once I got the higher allowance, I thought that would put me in the Tahoe.
It was at, of all places, a GMC dealer when the salesman, quizzing me on my wants and needs, said I should consider the MDX. (The Envoy just didn't do anything for me). That night I began to do research on the MDX and I could not believe all the positive things I was reading. Edmunds was a huge help on the MDX board, reading what owners and potential buyers faced at some Acura dealers.
A day later I spend time on the Acura website trying to locate an MDX I could test drive. None in Nashville, (where I was on a business trip)none in Knoxville, none at my hometown dealer. Found several in Atlanta, and two in Chattanooga. Drove to Chattanooga and looked at two, including a black touring model. Drove it for 10 miles or so and I was hooked.
They evaluated my trade and offered me quite a bit more than other dealers had offered me for the trade, making the MDX comparable to the Tahoe. I was 200 miles from home and since the wife and I always review numbers before we buy cars, I came home and reviewed them with her. I called the dealer the next day and asked for $600 more on the trade, or off the MDX (which I was buying at MSRP) and they agreed. I gave them my credit card for a deposit on Friday, and drove down to pick it up on Saturday.
After reading the posts here about people waiting months, I feel pretty lucky to be able to find one and drive it home in two days.
