:) Wife had been on me to get her an MDX ever since I purchased my 2k2 TL-S and she started driving my 2k0 TL. She had put her van up for sale and suggested we trade the 2000 TL and get an MDX. She took me to pick up my TL-S from service on Friday. While I was talking to the service folks, she snuck around and got a hold of our friendly salesman and before I knew it he was getting the TL appraised.

I told my wife she'd have to wait a month+ to get what she wanted but she told me that the green MDX Touring Navi was available for sale and we could take it home and leave the 2000 TL.

Didn't like the trade deal but ended up driving off with the MDX this morning at sticker + cost of running boards. They gave me the wheel locks, mud guards, sun roof visor, window tint, cargo liner, and all that spay protection I never will pay for anyway. Had 44 miles on it so it wasn't out of the box but not too bad for not having ordered. Took it home this morning. Dealer told me they had five come in this week and had sold them all.

Got mine with no wait but a big hurt in my pocket.

My Acura Inventory:

2002 MDX Granite Green Metallic Touring Navi,
2002 TL-S Nighthawk Black Navi,
2000 TL Laguna Green Navi,
1992 Acura Legend LS (Son has that)

Think my daughter will pick up the 2000 TL and I still have to sell my wife's van but my happily driving around in her MDX.

Congrats on the MDX. They are such HOT sellers, you sometimes have to take what you can. I think you got a great deal. I'm going to go for the '02 MDX Mesa Beige met. on that has had 2 deals fall through on. It's only got NAVI, but that's all I really want. No other options. Tell me what you think about the differences are between the Tl & the X.That'sm what I'm trading in on the MDX. Congrats again.;)

Got mine in two

Hey Texas,

I began the search for an SUV to replace my F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 about a month and a half ago when I was offered a new job that would require me to travel a lot.

Once I decided the MDX was most likely for me, my goal was to find one to test drive.

I used the internet to read reviews and narrowed it down, sort of, to several models. The MDX was not in my initial thought process, simply because I thought it was out of my price range.

I drove the Tahoe, Grand Cherokee, TrailBlazer, Envoy, and 4Runner. None of them really reached out and grabbed me, but all were good in their own ways.

Once the details of my new job were worked out, my car allowance was such that it would allow me to look "up" in my SUV search. Once I got the higher allowance, I thought that would put me in the Tahoe.

It was at, of all places, a GMC dealer when the salesman, quizzing me on my wants and needs, said I should consider the MDX. (The Envoy just didn't do anything for me). That night I began to do research on the MDX and I could not believe all the positive things I was reading. Edmunds was a huge help on the MDX board, reading what owners and potential buyers faced at some Acura dealers.

A day later I spend time on the Acura website trying to locate an MDX I could test drive. None in Nashville, (where I was on a business trip)none in Knoxville, none at my hometown dealer. Found several in Atlanta, and two in Chattanooga. Drove to Chattanooga and looked at two, including a black touring model. Drove it for 10 miles or so and I was hooked.

They evaluated my trade and offered me quite a bit more than other dealers had offered me for the trade, making the MDX comparable to the Tahoe. I was 200 miles from home and since the wife and I always review numbers before we buy cars, I came home and reviewed them with her. I called the dealer the next day and asked for $600 more on the trade, or off the MDX (which I was buying at MSRP) and they agreed. I gave them my credit card for a deposit on Friday, and drove down to pick it up on Saturday.

After reading the posts here about people waiting months, I feel pretty lucky to be able to find one and drive it home in two days.

congrats Mike, It's not likely that we get one in thats not sold, however things happen. We get extra mdx since we remodeled and we have some in stock from time to time. If an Mdx sits on your lot it will hurt your allocation so we will deal on those to move them. You did great!!!! and you got a great SUV!!!!!!!

Lrpba300, we'll it's hard to compare a TL to the MDX. But after driving the MDX a few times I could get comfortable with that change. I still have my 2000 TL same as yours and my daughter is going to buy it. She's getting a deal and is very happy. It was my first Acura so I'm glad it's staying in the family. Since I get the best of both worlds it's hard to compare but all around the MDX is certainly more versatile. All the upgrades from the 2002 TL from 2000 TL are in the touring version of the MDX including memory seats and the mirrors that tilt when you back up. The NAVI screen is much bigger and you'll have to adjust to the controls being on the left instead of right.

I notice more noise in the MDX but it's and SUV and that should be expected. It's a joy to drive and maneuver but it can't keep pace with the speed of a TL. Of course when I head for the country for the weekend, I'll loan my TL-S to my wife in exchange for the MDX and it will come in handy for the Texan tailgate parties coming in August. Enjoy your MDX. You'll love it.

Hard to believe someone got a MDX black on black touring Navi in just two days. I would have jumped on that but I'm happy with the granite green.

Hey texaspja, Thanx for the replay. Sounds like you get to enjoy both vehi, I'm not that luck. It's one or the other. I need more room, plus the weather here will make it all worth it I'm sure. I think the GG MDX is a great color & was our first choice, but when we found out they were getting only 2 more in before the color is gone, we started looking at others. I can't wait till it comes in. I know there are things I'll miss about the TL, but I'm sure I can suffer:D through w/ the "X"! I don't have Navi now in the TL, so I'm looking forward to getting to use one. My friend up the street has NAVI in his '01 TL. It's cool. Good luck w/ all your Acura's. Post some pics of the MDX! LP;)
