After a solid week of shopping for a new MDX in WA state I found Acura of Spokane to have the best deal out of all the dealers in the state.
They will sell or order new MDX's at 1k over MSRP and will ship to the westside for another $100.00.

Contact Harold McMcMackin ("MAC") at 1-888-767-4117.

This is 1000-1500 dollars below every other dealer I talked with.

You gotta be kidding...

Mr. Knightman, or should I just call you Mac?

You've got to be on drugs!!! Although the price you just quoted may indeed be better than other "honest" Acura crooks (aka Acura dealers) are charging in the fine state of Wa, $1,100 over MSRP is still a bad joke!!!

If you are indeed a dealer - shame on you for trying to bypass the normal payment-for-advertisement process. If you are a consumer thinking $1000 + $100 over MSRP is a good price, I have a nice bridge to seel to you as well. Just pm me.

VIP9- Or should I say "Mr. Super Senior Member" sir. I guess being a super senior member gives you the right to flame me eh?

I am just a consumer, and don't appreciate what you are implying with your remarks re: being on drugs and selling me a bridge.

What makes you an expert on the MDX market in WA state? I merely stated what I found to be the facts after having shopped every Acura dealer in the state. Fact is, dealers will take what the market will bare. Maybe it's different where you come from, but here, and throughout the northwest and CA consumers are being forced to buy at over invoice.

I'm sure some shoppers in WA state will appreciate this post, I was merely trying to provide data. People can make their own assessment of mkt conditions and choose to use this posting if it's to their advantage.

I'm not happy about the price gouging that's going on at Acura dealers in certain geographies either. If you have useful insights to contribute to help people buy at a reasonable price, perhaps you should offer them up? Otherwise, you might do better to simply stay quiet as your insults are doing no good. And if you do no good what are those 5 stars for? Maybe someone should take some away.

Knightman,

I will not offer any apologies as I still have doubts ( I am allowed that, you know!!! ) as to you being "just a consumer"
Your post looks a lot like a few other posts by some "professionals" rather than "amature chatters." There is no need for you to prove anything - each of us is entitled to an opinion.

As to those 5 stars - I am very proud I have them!!! The most important achievement of my life, you know... :D

Just read some of the posts before feeling offended and you'll know where I am coming from.

P.S. The bridge is still for sale.

P.P.S. Happy holidays, Robyjo and all!

That's all fine but...

Can you tell me how to get a better deal on a new MDX???

Youj've offered nothing to this thread that will benefit me or anyone else. Perhaps we should look at the QUALITY of your posts rather than the quanity Mr. 5 star.

Ok, I'll quit giving you a hard time now. You're probably a decent person. I'm sure all your hostility was aimed at price gouging dealers which is ok by me.

Take care,

Knightman ("Just a consumer").

I got a better deal than that from Acura of Spokane. I paid $250 of MSRP w/ the mud flaps thrown in. I called on Thurday and picked up on Saturday. If you really are a consumer, then offer them MSRP and spend a $100 to fly out and pick it up that weekend. They will bite if it is on the lot.

That's great. When did you buy, what color? Was it a Canadian or US vehicle?

I wound up buying a Canadian vehicle, but got it delivered to me for free and got it $500 below MSRP.
Oooooh...no US warranty, no recalls, no TSBs, unless your dealer's underwriting its own warranty to cover all of those...not a deal for everyone, IMO.

BTW I'm moving this discussion to the Pac Northwest forum...

Knightman, congratulations.

Too late now for any advice, but there are several posts similar to yours where the posters share the details of their deals.

Anywhere from Florida and West, people managed to find dealerships willing to sell at or EVEN BELOW MSRP (not by much, though)

Of course you would have to be willing to wait and/or travel and/or have it delivered cross-country, etc.

Worm pretty much summed up the pitfalls of gettiing a Canadian model. I do not remember exact figures (it was, once again, discussed at length on this forum), but I think that Canadian MSRP is about $5K (that's US$) less than American. Plus you lose 4x50 bumper-to-bumper. :(

Hopefully you'll never need to use it. Cannot say I was that lucky. :(

Price-gouging dealers stink!!! Acura as a "Luxury brand" stinks even more!!!

Happy holidays.

P.S. Thanks for your "vote of confidence" - "You're probably a decent person" :)

There are dealers in Oregon that will sell at MSRP or below. I found it is necessary to get away from the big cities and talk to dealers in the rural areas. I found 2 dealers that sell at MSRP and one dealer at 500 below. I ordered a vehicle at MSRP a week ago, but am in the process of saving myself another $500. I won't mention names of dealers, I think they are doing just fine without my advertising for them. I will say it has taken multiple phone calls, e-mails and going right to the managers in order to get what I believe is a fair price.

Congrats also Knightman, I will of course have to wait 5 months for my new rig. ;)

5 Months!

Congrats to you, but do you really think it's worth the wait? Your 2002 will be 5 months older by then, you will not have been able to use it.

I just got my blk/ebony yesterday and LOVE IT! I had it delivered to me 1 day after ordering from a dealer in WA up north. Got it for $500 below.

Holler if you want to give them a try and I'll give you the contact info.

It's a canadian rig, but you can't tell it apart from a US vehicle apart from the daytime running lights, which I prefer and will likely be mandated in the US shortly. The spedo was changed over to MPH, they included the waranty (1 year longer than factory, plus you always have the candadian factory warranty and they will manage any warranty issues for you by taking the car up north and giving you a loaner).

If you want Nav forget it. Can't get that in Canada.

Knightman, sorry to confront you again, but I think there is some incorrect info in your post.

Disclaimer: I do not have the first-hand knowledge on this subject. Everything I know and will express in this post comes from various discussions on this forum. If you, or anyone else, have different info, please make sure to let all the members know.

OK, back to the essentials:

1. Warranty - I think that "crossing the border" kills Canadian warranty, but does not put US one into effect.

2. Extended warranty you got is not as inclusive as the original bumper-to-bumper coverage. If you got a 3rd party warranty rather than AcuraCare, you are also missing out on Acura TLC, roadside assistance, etc.

3. The $500 off MSRP you keep mentioning - is it US$, and is it US MSRP? Once again, w/o exact figures, I believe that Canadian MSRP is about US$ 3,000 - 5,000 less than MDX Touring US MSRP.

The only benefits of your purchase - you got it immediately and you have DRL. Did you really get a "great deal?" The truth is in the eyes of the beholder...

Enjoy your MDX!

Thanks any way knightman, but I'm a patient man, and besides I'll be out of the country for the next five months. I expect My MDX will be on a train about the same time that I'm on a plane. Both of us heading for Oregon about the same time. I'm looking forward to a long work free summer of enjoying my MDX.
I know nothing about dealing with Canadian vehicles, but have found this thread very interesting. You have the contract, warranty and MDX in your hand. You should be a wealth of info on this topic now. After carefully reading your post, this is how I understand it.

You bought your vehicle from a US dealer therefore all dollar amounts are $US.

Your "vehicle" warranty is now 5 year/50,000 mi, or did you mean you now get 6 years on the outer body rust through. ???

How is a Canadian warranty different than a US warranty. Is it better worse or the same.???

Thanks for the info:)

Canadian details

Hey VIP - I'll try to clarify.

1. Warranty - I think that "crossing the border" kills Canadian warranty, but does not put US one into effect.

I believe you are technically correct on this point in that the factory acura warranty is not valid in the US (unless you are a Canadian, see the manual). YOU CAN TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO ANY DEALER IN CANADA FOR WARRANTY WORK. Obviously not convenient if you don't live near Canada. My auto-broker will take the car to Canada for any major warranty repairs not covered by the 3rd party warranty. I must admit, this is not ideal, but my prior experience owning Acura products is that they are solid and require little warranty work. Hopefully this one will be no different. I was willing to assume the risk, others may not be. Then again, they won't be driving their car anytime soon either w/o paying a premium.

2. Extended warranty you got is not as inclusive as the original bumper-to-bumper coverage. If you got a 3rd party warranty rather than AcuraCare, you are also missing out on Acura TLC, roadside assistance, etc.

Agreed. 3rd party Warranty is not as inclusive. However, I have the factory warranty too for any major uncovered items, but would have to have the car taken to Canada. It will probably be an inconvenience if it happens though. Hope this won't come back to bite me. You are incorrect on your point about roadside assistance (Acura Plus). It is covered in Canada and US. This is spelled out clearly in the Acura Plus plan that came with the vehicle.

3. The $500 off MSRP you keep mentioning - is it US$, and is it US MSRP? Once again, w/o exact figures, I believe that Canadian MSRP is about US$ 3,000 - 5,000 less than MDX Touring US MSRP.

I purchased at $500.00 US below the $US MSRP.

The only benefits of your purchase - you got it immediately and you have DRL. Did you really get a "great deal?" The truth is in the eyes of the beholder...

I would say benefits are as follows:

Purchased at a competitive price - $500 under MSRP (US) is better than anything I could come up with in Wa.
Got it immediately - This is a big deal. How much is depreication (time value) of an MDX per month? Each month you wait for a MDX is another month old the car will be, another month you won't be able to drive it. Each month someone waits for their '02 car is another month older the car gets. By the time some people get their MDX's that are on order, the O3's will come out shortly after.

Is it a great deal? I'd say no. Is it the best I could get in the near-term? I think so.

I love the car. Time will tell how the warranty issue plays out.

Knightman,

Thanks for those rational and cool-headed responses. Our original replies were a bit curt (mine inlcuded) -- because we've seen a couple of buyers who were taken by surprise (or had unrealistic expectations in one case) on their Canajun MDXs and warranty issues. Obviously you were well aware of what was going on during the process.

FWIW, MDXs can be found @ MSRP (and on very very rare occassion, 500 bucks under) in other states -- without excessive waits -- including CA. It seems the Southeast is the easiest to get it fast and @ sticker, but you have to ship it or drive it home. Some Bay Area members have had recent luck in SoCal, too. The Northwest continues to appear to be the most difficult in terms of pricing and waits.

My comments as a fellow American with a Canadian MDX:

1. I have read several posts that my car would not be subject to any recalls. I would be shocked if that was the case. Most, if not all recalls, are safety issues. Can you imagine Acura's liability if they did not fix a safety issue on a vehicle?

2. Warranty - I did not purchase any after-market or extended warranty. First, I don't believe it is all that cut-and-dried that I do not have any warranty at all right now. I think it will be interesting to see what would happen if I needed warranty work. Acura does not care that I purchased my vehicle in Canada. They only state there is no warranty for the benefit of American dealers who complained about Americans buying MDXs, and Odysseys, in Canada. What happens to the Canadian MDX owner whose job is transferred to America, and he takes his MDX with him? Is Acura going to tell him he no longer has a warranty? I doubt it. Even if I do not have any warranty. What are the chances any warranty work will cost more than $2,500 (the amount I saved by buying Canadian)? Not very likely. If the cost is going to be high, I could try taking the vehicle to Canada for the warranty work. Who knows if that would work, but I am not losing any sleep over it. As far as the after-market or extended warranties - from an economic standpoint, they are not worth it or else no one would sell them. Besides, if I am going to lose sleep over the slight possibility of a couple thousand dollar repair bill, then I should not have purchased the MDX. I should have purchased a much cheaper vehicle. Not having a warranty frees you from having to give your car sheduled maintenance. I could go 15,000 miles between oil changes if I like. I usually trade cars in after a few years, so the long-term effects from abuse does not bother me.

3. I like having daytime running lights, especially driving in the Pacific Northwest where it is frequently overcast.

4. Not having to deal with any salesmen or dealers is always a plus. Although that Roger Womack guy seems decent, the whole buying process is always made too frustrating. Too many people involved. I bought a Saturn years ago, and even that was painful, especially when they sang a song to me.

5. A bad thing - You can not change the climate control thing to Fahrenheit.

pricing on 2002 mdx's

best bet to get a good deal is the internet specials being run throughout the country they are willing to do msrp or better. they will not offer it to you unless you contact them on the internet. present pricing is mostly at msrp, but depending where you are it can be 1500-3000 over msrp. they may tell you less but you will be waiting for 5-6 months and still won't see the vehicle. i'm in the norteast and they are starting at 3000 over msrp for 2 month wait was able to do better because i bought alot of options myself. if you want the vehicle you better pay the price or the wait will kill you depending on where your located. it seems the hot climate like the south and west are able to do better on pricing than where the snow falls there is too much demand and not enough supply good luck shopping i've had my 2002 blsck/ebony touring with nav for 3 weeks and 900 miles and its great researched for up to 9 months and test drove all competetors and nothing compared:D :D

Goof NDX price in WA State

Knightman
I have to second your comments about Acura of Spokane being the best in WA. I do not want to mention price but I did better, much better than $1000 over. Ordered on the 23 Oct took delivery on Nov 20, to be sure there was some suffling I got someone else's SS Tourning whose lease on a BMW did not expire until Jan 02. I consider myself lucky, the whole deal was crazy but I am a winner.
