We are in the market for eother a new MDX or a gently used one. Please let me know if you have any experiences with Acura dealers near SF bay area.

Please also let me know if you have one with under 20K miles for sale. Granite Green is our first choice but other colors will also be considered.

Thanks in advance :2: !!

Just based on personal experience even though I picked mine up in SoCal.
For all around service Hopkins Acura in Redwood City, but they get small allocations so list may be long. But it's worth trying for cancellations, you never know.
Not too impressed with others. Hopkins will charge MSRP no forced options, and on the whole, their cost to install accessories is less than average.
But if really anxious for a car, you should try Niello in Sacramento. They are very good for sales, very responsive.
Stevens Creek and Los Gatos are responsive, but always push accessory packages as part of the deal.
Good luck!

I just got mine from Steven Creek. When I shoped, Hopkins, Los Gatos, Plansanton, Oakland, ... all asked for over MSRP. In fact, most if not all dealers has 1 that will sell you immediately but ask for $2k - $4k over MSRP. Steven Creek doesn't have the best deal right now, I just don't want to switch now and wait any longer. In fact, I checked all bay area dealers less than 2 months ago. The only 1 asking for MSRP with no forced option is Concord or maybe a dealer at Marin county.

I called Niello in Sacramento but the sales guy played ball with me. During the first call, he said he has 1 but said the dealer prefered to sell it to local customer so they get service there too. I think he is testing me whether I am very anxious about getting 1 or not. The next day, he said the MDX should be available the next day if no local buyer shows up. And finally the 3rd day, he said the MDX is available!

The fact that it is getting closer to model year end should help you a bit.

That is the very first report I ever read of Hopkins selling over MSRP. I guess there's the first time for everything!
Since they get fewer cars than most dealers, that makes it even more amazing. You should add that info to the dealers ratings!

The last time I checked with Hopkins (yesterday), they are still selling at MSRP with no forced options. They are having several MDXs coming late June and in July with no buyers yet. I just got a call that a Havasu Blue with Touring and Nav coming in july with no buyers, selling at $39,800, I believe.

Glad to hear it, they are good people. Michael Andrews and Arlene are great to deal with.
If I wanted to remain on a waiting list, I definitely would have stayed with them.
But my 'boat' came in.. so I went to the Desert!

You're right on the mark here daleB.... I have a deposit with Arlene at Hopkins, they are the most relaxed and low-pressured dealership I've found. There are still selling at MSRP, no forced options and will even put you on a list for the 2003s. I'm 13th in line for the 03.

Last I heard from them they are getting about 10-12 allocated every month. Other dealers wouldn't even let you wait for next years when they can still sell 2002 right now.

rwx,

Are you sure Hopkin's Acura is asking over MSRP? And who did you talk to?

I bought mine from them in Feb. and paid MSRP. I've also heard from others that have purchased from them...all have been charged MSRP. If you get accessories from Hopkins, they do charge a little higher than the prices stated on the Acura website.

Last week I talked to Al at Hopkins and he said they have a few coming in that were not spoken for. It's hard to believe that they would charge above MSRP when the demand is decreasing.

I think you need to call Hopkins again. Mike Andrews and Arlene are 2 of the best auto sales people around.

I'd bet money that rwx meant Harvey (in Burlingame) rather than Hopkins when referring to MSRP+. Harvey's been doing the "highest bidder" schtick since the X was released.

Hopkins also owns Solano Acura. I had a good experience there (just don't let them wash it). Forced accessories were quite modest -- a couple hundred bucks for locks, flaps and cargo cover. Reasonably priced and useful @ least. Ask for Debbie and Anita (they do the team thing).

Prestige in Santa Rosa also has rec'd rave reviews (MSRP)...no one's updated on their wait-time in awhile, which was quite long.

I'd encourage you to consider some SoCal dealers, too. Dale got his in Palm Springs and others have had success (MSRP, shorter waits -- sometimes none) in LA.

Check the dealer-ratings section (link @ top of page).

I could be wrong here about Hopkins. My shopping was done last year and I am sure I did call Harvey but ain't sure about Hopkins now.

I drove up to Sacramento and purchased an X from Niello at MSRP. They threw in wheel locks and rear mud flaps for free even though I told them that I didn't want to buy any accesories. Very easy to deal with by email and phone. The car was delivered about 1 week from my initial inquiry exactly as promised.

I also got my '02 SS MDX/Nav at Niello. It came with wheel locks, rear mud flaps, and carpets at MSRP. Since I was a repeat customer ( bought 00 TL /Nav), I got more than $100 extra in goodies.

Call Don (sorry, I don't remember his last name), he is the sale person in charge of MDX. He is a very good guy.

I got my after 2 weeks on the list. I originally wanted GG to match my wife laguna green, but I was told it would take a long time. Recently, Niello advertised on news paper that they have 3 MDXs in stock.

Good luck! Paul:)

Count me among the many who recommend Hopkins Acura. I spoke with Micheal Andrews today on the phone and sure enough. MSRP and No forced add-ons. He faxed me his price list for add-ons and it's the real prices. Not the inflated ones that Los Gatos Acura uses. Here is my experience with local dealers so far.

Los Gatos Acura: $1500.00 "Pkg" required to even get on a waiting list. Not negotiable. The Pkg. charges $1100.00 for Running Boards (Hopkins charges $747.00 installed) plus $99.00 for Wheel Locks ($71.00 at Hopkins) and a Whopping $299.00 for the Rear Mud Flaps ($100.00 at Hopkins). Los Gatos Acura is a rip off. Last year they were also adding $2000.00 to the MSRP! Big thumbs down and would rather drive to Sacramento than buy anything from them!

Sunnyvale Acura: $500.00 to $1500.00 worth of forced Accessories depending on who you talk to. The Internet specialist says $500.00 but that she would have to get that approved by the manager (yeah right).

Stevens Creek Acura: $1100.00 over MSRP plus at least *some* forced accessories. Usually Running boards, mud flaps, and wheel locks. All at inflated profits. When I told the salesman on the phone I felt he was gouging customers, he told me to "kiss his ass". Yep. True story. I called the manager to complain and got voicemail and nary a call back. They are truly the Devil at Stevens Creek Acura. Steer clear...

Acura of Plesanton: $5000.00 worth of forced accessories... Yep you heard me right. Some Iraqui guy who barely spoke english named Farook played games with me for two days until I finally confronted him and asked him just how much crap did I have to buy for the privilage of doing business with them. Huge waste of time and very dishonest.

So. To sum up. The only place in my immediate area that is not a sleezy buch of opportunistic thieves would be the Hopkins Acura dealership in Redwood City. Niello Acura in Sacramento is also first rate (talked to them via email and they have the same fair policies as Hopkins) but they are pretty darn far away. I tell you what though. I'd sooner drive all the way to Sacramento to buy from an honest dealer than to allow myself to be not only forced to buy crap I don't want, but to also have it sold to me at nearly DOUBLE the suggested retail price. I honestly can't believe Acura Inc. lets this kind of thing happen. It truly cheapens the brand IMO. You can bet Lexus would never stand for this. Of course they simply charge you more to begin with... :D

I'm on a waiting list at Hopkins for the 2003 when they start ordering. Arlene has been very pleasant to work with and I'm sure they will stick to their MSRP price w/no forced options for the 2003 model.

We actually bought at Los Gatos Acura at MSRP with no forced options and we even received a discount on installed options. Of course, this was before they realized they could gouge. My sales guy was great, however, since I used him to buy my TL also.

Dale is correct, their Service team is great. I have had my Acuras serviced with them for over 10 years.

So, even though I wouldn't recommend their sales dept for charging over MSRP, I would recommend their Service Dept.

As of Friday, July 5th, Acura of Modesto had a 2002 silver touring without navigation with approx. 7000 miles. We bought a new one, and did not check the price of this one.

My family and I went to the acura dealership in Fairfield (solano county) several times and we got really crapy service. No one came out to greet us like usual sales people do. We had to go to them to ask about the MDXs. It was terrible. I got my MDX at Lasher in Sacramento they treated my family and I really good. But we had to take whatever the car came with even though we didnt think we needed it. Lasher is a first come first serve basis, so after waiting for about a year we took the chance in going there and got a car. The sales person did mention that the owner only wanted to sell to local customers because in the past they have had people on their waiting lists (which they dont have anymore) from afar backdown from purchasing a car. Which left them stuck with the car. I guess back then no one was interested in MDXs.
