Glove Box Alignment

7754 Views 51 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  accmdx
The left side of my glove box is not properly aligned with the rest of the dash. Its not terrible, but if you look closely its obvious that its not flush.

The dealership says that there is no adjustment possible on the box. When they've ordered replacement units, they are the same or worse than the original.

Has anyone had the same problem and were you able to get it resolved?

I have the same excat thing and unless the dealer replaces the box with a new straight one, there is no adjustments to be made. I have accepted the fact that this is NOT a luxury SUV and just another SUV that looks better than the average SUV.

My dealer told me when I was first looking at the MDX that the fit and finish of the MDX is far below the Japanese made Acura products they sell. They also told me that they had a brand new Gold MDX that the door color didn't match the rest!

My driver side exterior door handle was also not straight and I had the dealer replace it. It was not an assembly problem, the handle was just manufactured poorly. The label on the MDX said something like 60% US made. I don't have anything against US made products just that the Quality Control is far below Japanese made products.

I have also seen at least two MDXes on the road with one of the tail light bulbs out! My experience with non-Japanese made Honda products (I have had many Honda products) is that the light bulbs don't last very long!

Nothing is perfect, so enjoy the good points of the MDX I guess.

Our company also manufactures the G-Box...
It was a struggle to get honda canada to except this gap/flushness probelm to an acceptable level. This problem also exists on the new civic...
I think its a joint problem...our parts and honda's design of the g-box/IP.

Do you know of a fix in the works?

Could you clarify, was Honda Canada unwilling to accept the gap and your company was (uhhh, how do I put this) making excuses? Or are you saying that Honda Canada felt "stop worrying, it's close enough" but your company felt "no, we can do better"????

Just for my piece of mind.
Basically I'm saying there were gap and flushness issues...
no one would fix the problem....
Oh its time for mp...guess we'll accept it.
Misaligned Glove Box

The dealership tried to adjust the fit on my glove box (the left side was sticking out). I went to pick up the vehicle after the adjustment and it was exactly the same as when I left it. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice.

When I complained, they said that they would replace the box with a new one. When I went to pick up the MDX, the box was not perfect, but pretty much flush with the rest of the dash.

I then tried to open the box...no problem. I then tried to close the box...PROBLEM. It now has to be slammed shut multiple times. The dealership says that there is no adjustment (I wonder what they were trying to adjust previously) and if I want a box that closes like most glove boxes normally do, then it will not be flush.

FRUSTRATING
Glove Box Blues

So there I was, driving east on the 101 freeway with my wife this evening on our way to meet some friends for dinner. I had the sunroof open, the in-dash 6 was playing some great music, traffic was moving swiftly, and then, all of a sudden the wife says to me "hey, what's wrong with your glove box? It doesn't look like it has shut all the way." I looked over and sure enough, there was a noticeable gap!

I of course nearly ran several other cars off the road while opening and slamming the thing shut - just to prove to her that this is the greatest SUV on Earth. I was however, unable to achieve "flushness!" Immediately upon my return home I logged on the THE site and am happy to hear I am not alone, yet saddened to learn that this is a problem that appears to have no immediate fix available.

Does anyone know of any good news for those of us who are experiencing this problem - it looks horrible.
Can someone add a pictureof this problem? I looked at mine and its not ( to the spec ) perfect but its also not bad enough to see inside the compartment when shut.

TECK!
I got mine yesterday and because I have been reading from the forum since I put down a deposit, I know where I should look for problems. Thanks! I immediately noticed that the left side of the glove box is out of alignment, off by several millimeters or so. I am not sure, though, whether this is a serious enough problem.
Glove Box Alignment (Rattle?)

I have the same mis-alignment issue with my glove box. It's not that noticable (unless you know it's there, of course). What bothers me the most, though, is the constant rattling. It's not loud but it is perceptable. I find myself constantly leaning over to instinctively open the glove box and slam it shut. That seems to stop the rattle for about 20 seconds then it starts again.

Does anyone else have the rattle?
Mine is misaligned too but being ebony interrior, it does not show much. But it did not and should not rattle at all. Bring it in for a fix.

Cheers :)

I'm pretty sure that I do *NOT* have the rattle.... But I think we've all got the gap. Mind the gap.
I want to reiterate that mine is misaligned, protuding on the left side a little bit, but no gap on the top and shut tight.
Mind the Gap

Wow, and I thought it was just me. I also have the misalignment which my husband kindly pointed out to me. No rattle and it shuts tight. Sounds like it is a bad idea to have the dealer "fix it". Darn, and I just sent in my Acura survey yesterday!
Hi Tina,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new 'DX. Tell us more about your car and experience.

Cheers, :)
Yep me too

I have the same problem with my glove box. It's not flesh with the side either. I started to hear a rattle and blamed it on the glove box having so much stuff in it, like the big Acura leather book case they give you with about 4 books in it. So I took everything out thinking that it would quit making that noise and maybe it would go flesh with the sides. That wasn't it. It's something above the glove box clunking while I'm driving down the road. It drives me bonkers. I can handle the glove box not being right on it's spot, but I can't handle the clunking noise it makes when I'm driving. It's worse than the THUD!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I think you stole that subject line from me! :)

Welcome to the Board. I really don't notice the glove box as I rarely sit on that side. Tell us more about your ride!

Lmeans, while I've seen a number of posts about the mis-alignment, your the first (other than me) to complain about a rattle. Mine is driving me crazy as well. I can live with it not being flush, but the rattle  !!!!!! What's worse is that I took it in for service and they said they tightened it up. It seemed OK on the ride home from the dealership but the next day it was back. I will be bringing it back in for them to take another crack at it.
DonsMDX,

What exactly did they tighten up? Was it the glove box itself or the wires above it? When you take it in again to get it fixed let me know what they do to it. My husband says that he could fix it instead of me going 150 miles to get it done.
