Although, Mike Andrews was a real gentleman. He knew I need a car, and he had a Mahogany coming in and called me promptly. He had constantly kept me in the informed of the status. 'DX will be our third car...for family outings and such so not in a big hurry but I would rather have the 'DX in my garage soon.
So if I called M. Andrews and tell him that I want the 'DX slated for GCK, you think he would give it to me :> (Just a wonderful thought!!)

I suggest you to put down the deposit even if they tell you it will be 2 months or longer waiting list. There will be a lot more cancellations due to bad economy and multiple deposits such as GCK and marne's case. I did the similar thing but one of the dealer didn't require any deposits but it was a much longer waiting list. So the chances are that you will get your MDX much sooner than you think. I think one of the forum member got an MDX in 10 days in L.A.
Once you get your MDX, I'll bet it won't be your third car. You will want to drive it everyday. Good luck and hope that you get your soon.

I am still waiting!! Not sure how anyone could walk in and get one after 10 days but called almost every Acura dealer in No. Ca and it seems if I want it soon, $4K of unwanted accessories, or $2K above MSRP. So, maybe I will start calling around So. CA dealers....

I think the supply and demand situation will become more balanced lately due to several reasons:
1. Tremendous initial demand is ebbing
2. Cancellations of multiple booking/reservation
3. Bad economy
4. Discounting/Promotion by other SUV makers
Pretty soon the long wait and forced options will be out. Discounting will be in vogue in a few months, probably in mid 2002. My humble prediction.

Under recent situation, I won't put down deposit for more than two months wait. Once you gave them the deposit, they (except hornest dealers) think you're hooked. Also, I would not trust dealers that are not willing to give out build date. My 2 cents.megabuck2 said:

I got my 02 MDX from Sunnyvale Acura in less than 2 months. Initially they told me 3 months or longer but it turned out that it wasn't so. I'm wondering how many other people got theirs much earlier like me. We should start a quick survey among the 02 'X owners out there and get a feel of how much the supply and demand has balance out by now. ???

Tim's the parts manager of an Acura dealership near Buffalo that helps out a bunch on this site -- his hame on the site is hondacuraworld, and you can see his monthly specials in the accessories section of this forum.
All of the parts are genuine Acura, discounted, and include shipping charges. He also includes instructions and phine support -- website is http://www.hondacuraworld.com

Just got a call from Los Gatos Acura that they have a Redrock available. Talked to Jason over there. They had a deposit on it, but looks like someone backed out of the deal. Not that I regret the purchase I made, but I could have had a deal here in the Bay Area.

Just made calls to Los Gatos Acura and Pleasanton Acura. Both are selling at MSRP, but LG Acura wans 2K for cargo cover, rear deflector, running baords, ud guards, and wheel locks; they claim a $500 deposit today would get a January build date. Pleasanton Acura wants 3800 for those plus steering wheel knob and other stuff I didn't catch, and claims to have a shipment coming in early next week, first-come first-served.

Good luck. Perhaps you can find some deals in big cities where people have more "drop-out" than those of smaller cities where only one Acura dealer exists in each city.GCK said:

Dealers are not likely to soften until they start to see cars piling up on the lot. I sure don't see that happening here. At this time, even if you can find some deal out of state to save $500, it won't justify, say, a one-way trip to a big city.

I would be leery if I called an got the 'dx...how about the other poor souls who have put a deposit down and waited for few months!
It still seems demand is greater than supply. No way a dealer (especially here in the Bay Area) is willing to deal anything less than MSRP. One would be fortunate if you get a 'dx without any forced accessories.
Called Concord and asked about a build date but they said he won't know until next months and that I am 5th in line for the Granite Green.
Hopkins = still no build date and, expect it in March/April 2002. What got me a little ticked was "...you have to wait til March/April for the price you want to pay...." I asked "So if I want to load it with accessories, I will it get sooner?" A long silence, no answer.
Geez, at this moment, maybe I will wait 'til 10/02 for the 2003 to come out.
I ordered Zaino, towels, running board...all I now is the damn 'DX.
