Has anyone ever had a problem with the MDX gas pedal sticking? It has happened to us twice now. Both times we backed out of the driveway, put the truck into drive and then had to really push the gas pedal hard to get it rolling -- almost like it was stuck on something, but there is nothing visibly impeding the pedal. Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

What did they find?

Mine is in the shop for the same problem and they've asked to keep it overnight for further diagnosis. The leading theory is that the throttle plate is sticking in the throttle body. So far it's always stuck closed and works after you stomp on the pedal. The most recent case (yesterday) was followed later in the day (on three trips) by the Check-engine light and once by the VTM-4 light, so something's amiss. Also the same day, upon arriving home, it got into a mode where the idle surged from 1k to 2k and back at one second intervals nonstop for 5+ minutes until I shut it down. Since then it's run fine and is now at the dealer.

I'll have to try that as an excuse next time----"Officer, I was driving 5 MPH under the speed limit when all of a sudden the gas pedal stuck and........"

Seriously, I would park my X, call the dealer, and request they tow it the shop. Driving with a sticking gas pedal is too dangerous to even drive it to the dealer!

I have a 03 and have not had that problem but the 03's have drive by wire were the previous model years did not.

Okay this may sound stupid, but did you have you parking brake on. I can recall couple of time when reversing out of my garage I felt the X SLOOOWY pull out only to realize the Brake was on.

This is the 3rd time this gas pedal sticking has happened to our MDX. The first time I had it serviced 1/19/04 for this problem, the dealer replace the throttle body assembly. Then it happened again in July, 04. The dealer cleaned the throttle body. Now, Jan. 05, it's sticking again.

Could it be something else?

The Odyssey and Pilot have a service bulletin about "accelerator hard to press". I have not seen a SB on the MDX but the cars are similar.
Probable cause: deposits in throttle bore.
Corrective action: install new throttle body and gasket.

Thanks for the info. I had the throttle body and gasket changed last Jan. '04. I'm planning to take it to the dealer next week. I'll bring a copy of the service bulletin for the Pilot.
