Free car washes were offered by Rizza Acura in Orland Park, IL as part of "the deal". I purchased an '03 MDX a few months ago and everything seemed fine until they decided they were not going to offer free washes any longer. This was quite disappointing since it was offered and eliminated without warning.

The dealership said it was because customers were upset that the washes weren't done well. I personally didn't expect a perfect wash, but it was sure convenient and a $$ saver.

Just wondering if anyone else is concerned about this. They supposedly were going to offer only five free washes or offer car wash coupons, but they backed off of that also. One irate customer thought we should get together and start a class action lawsuit to gain some satisfaction, but that seems extreme.

Anyone else out there concerned about this? Does anyone else get free washes at their Acura dealership? I understand it is strictly a dearlership perk and Acura will not stand behind the dealer commitment. Just curious. Maybe I'm expecting too much, although after paying sticker price, I don't feel it is too much to expect. I understand other Acura dealers in Illinois also offer free washes. Any suggestions?

I specifically ask the dealer not to wash my X. With a dark color the risk of getting swirls from improper washing/drying procedures and using a soap that removes the Zaino makes a dealer car wash highly undesirable IMHO.

Continental Acura in Lisle, IL (www.continentalacura.com) has free car washes if you buy from them. Great service - had my 'X through it a few times already! No problems at all and have not heard anything about them going away...

Hi Sichelski:

___Not that this helps you any but my local Toyota dealer washes the Corolla anytime I take it in for an oil change. Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, this only happens in the winter …

___Since the wash was part of your X deal, I believe they owe it to you if you truly want them to perform the task but receiving the service is another matter altogether. Do they have the capability anymore or can they offer you a coupon to a local brushless wash setup? I would ask if I were you.

___Good Luck

My dealer washes my cars whenever I'm there! I don't always want it washed, but their policy is to wash all cars unless specifically asked NOT to wash it.

BTW -- a class-action suit for car washes is the stupidest thing I've heard today!

Having a dealer no longer provide car washes would be the best thing to happen to a car's finish since wax was invented! :D

This is SO VERY WRONG!!!

Where to begin...

Let's see-- Dealer gets complaints from folks who probably gave them what $2K+ ON AVERAGE profit over LOUSY carwash. Dealer decided, "Screw 'em, they think the car wash is lousy I won't give 'em away..."

IN GENERAL, dealer car washes are CRAPPY - why not have dealers STRIVE to offer QUALITY car wash???

Anybody who decides to go with a particular dealer JUST becuase of car wash (or loaner policy, or espresso, or WHATEVER) ought to have their head examined. Dealers are STORES, once you buy the vehicle the MONEY THEY MADE FROM YOU IS OVER BABY!!! That is REALITY.

If somebody says "Lexus dealers wash 'em" I will just cringe. Bet it the same crappy DEALER STYLE wash. Personally I think many (?most) Lexus owners are NOT very demanding customers. Afterall they buy ES300/ Camrys in DROVES, and that IS a hideous looking vehicle. They are probably so blind they wouldn't notice if the dealers actualy scotch brited all their paint.

Now,if you drop off a Ferrari for service I'd EXPECT a hand car wash, but a) you probably need service about as frequently as the car is dirty b) you spend about 4x to acquire the F car, and 10x to serrvice c) many/most Acura dealers own a Honda store and everybody knows Honda = volume, volume, volume so "luxury service" ain't in the Acura dealers genes... (BTW Continental owns a very successful Ferrari, Lotus, Bentley store...)

Finally, I'm a life long Chicago area resident. For as long as the Rizza family has been in the car business they were NOT in it "for the cars" -- they were in it for the CASH. Now, if you moved here from somewhere else maybe this escaped you, and I'm sorry . If, however, you've seen the BILLIONS of Rizza ads that stressed "drive an Escort for $99" and similar advertsing, you gotta know this is NOT a family that is gonna go the extra mile for service... At a dealer like this one pretty much would have to accept that they are gonna play everybody through the door "like a sucka".

I got a funny story for you

I went to Frankel in Baltimore for a routine oil change/alignment calibration. Before I handed over the keys I asked them to check the water pump and the rear stabilizers as well as the oil change and the alignment. I also asked them to not wash the MDX. I swear I waited there for 2 hours before they called my name.

"Mr. Jon, we have determined that your make was not recalled for the water pump issue and the rear stabilizer bars were ok. The alignment problem was due to uneven tire pressure........but you are 200 miles overdue for an oil change."

:1pat:

And on top of that they freaking wash my car after I asked them not to!!!!

Service Car Wash

My dealer is Ray Laks and I use their West Seneca location for service. Every time I take my MDX in for service they take the time to wash it, which is a courtesy (& service) that I appreciate. They also take the time to touch -up any stone nicks that they find. I have never had a dealer provide better service.

PS - They always provide an Acura loaner car for any service (even oil changes).

Completely spoiled in Buffalo...:D

McGrath in Westmont, ill does a really nice job washing the cars. They clean inside and out, vacuum, clean inside windows.Even apply tire dressing. BTW they provide loaners as well for service work. Shoot I even stop by when in the neighborhood just to wash it, then me and the misses sit in their waiting room drinking cappucino and putting a few balls.

Hi TheWorm:

___I don’t believe you have experienced a Chicago winter? From December through March, your cars exterior is the consistency of a Salt Lick rather than sheet metal with primer, color, and a nice clear coat … Even a spray of water helps tremendously for all of maybe ½ mile as you drive away from the brushless wash only to be coated all over again ;)

I don't think we'll be seeing you in any Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce ads inviting people there to vacation. :)

Hi All:

___Sorry for going OT …

___Crmsnidol, and how …

___Theater in “the City that works” (I love the Goodman myself) is excellent and the Mag mile from Thanksgiving through New Years is a site to behold. Oak Street Beach for the regulars in the summer, Taste of Chicago, Air and Water Show, Navy Pier and a ride on the Ferris Wheel at night, a night dinner excursion by boat off the Chicago cityscape, Hancock or Sears Tower observatories on a clear evening is magnificent. The Chicago Museums and especially the Hospitals are some of the best in the world. Sports nuts love the city even if every team is usually a bottom dweller post (“Da Bull’s” ;)). I don’t understand Wrigley’s draw given the placing of the Cub’s year after year … My daughter lives in Wriglyville and it’s a nightmare during a Cubs game? Might I add a drive down Lake Shore drive in the spring through fall with all the relatively new landscaping is very nice.

___Chicago does have its upside in some respects … although the winters do in fact suck ;)

___Good Luck

No kidding - and I am working up in Wisconsin during the week, where it's colder and windier...yuck. And yes, with the lovely white paste that builds up in the winter, the dealer car washes are appreciated (and the ones I get are not too bad...). :)

Thank you renov8r.........I'm laughing because I've verbally told my "free car wash" story to numerous people in the neighborhood and they made similar comments regarding RIZZA in the Chicagoland area. No one had anything good to say about Rizza and I have learned my lesson.

I can't believe all of the horror stories about RIZZA Acura, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, etc..

Thanks also to Warzau. I work close to McGrath and should have purchased the MDX there, but thought the "neighborhood" dealer made more sense. Live and learn!
