Hey my MDX friends, I should be receiving my RedRock Pearl MDX in about 2 months. I would like to know is it really worth getting the extended warranty (7 years 100,000 miles). Or should I stick with the regular manufacture warranty of 4 years 50,000 miles. Please advise on the difference between the two. Thanks.

I bought the Acura Extended Warrenty with no deductable for 7yrs/100k miles for $1525. The main reason I bought it was I know I will have a major problem at 4years, 1 month if I dont.
You can do a search on warranty, as there have been a couple of threads on this site as to whether one should get the warrenty or not, and where you can get them. I dont consider myself lucky, so I rather pay for it, expecially since I financed it with the car, so it was a small delta to the monthly cost.

i also took delivery of my MDX a month ago and bought the 7/75K miles warranty for $1095.
I don't drive 10K miles a year so the lower mileage was ok for me.
I think its worth it because i've been trying to buy an aftermarket warranty for my BMW and its $3000 to extend the warranty 3 years from the original. of course, the car is already out of warranty which bumps the cost up.
it all depends, can you see yourself still owning the car in 4 years ?

I'm a believer in extended warranty, principally because I can find things wrong at 95k miles and get the dealer to fix them...
You need to weight buying it now versus later. The diffrence is $100-200 between buying at purchase and waiting for 36k. What is the interest for 3 years on $1100 -1500?

When I bought an extended warranty on my last Ford vehicle (yup, they need them for sure) I was able to buy one from an east coast dealer (I am on the west coast) . He had an 'ad' on the web.
I just called them up and the finance manager sold it to me about $300 cheaper than I could find it at a local dealer.
It was entirely legitimate, and the next time I brought the car in for service, it was all registered on the computer.
So dealers got to be competitive on this, I don't believe you are obligated to go through your purchasing dealer.
Ford and I believe GM, sell them retail on the web by the way.

I know that you can deal on the price. The original finance person quoted me the price I paid, but I held out one day before signing the loan papers, and I got a different finance person. Just tell them you know that is the list price on the warranty, and you know others getting for 1525.

there is no 'list price' on extended warranties- the finance person just sizes up the lamb, er customer, and picks a number.
$1525 is what a 7/100k sells for at 2 YEARS after you buy. You should be able to trim 150-175 off that- give www.acurawarranty.com a try (it is springfield acura in NJ)
Even if you want to buy in your state, call around on the phone to get the best price. Don't give them the whole story, ask to speak to the 'finance manager' directly, simply ask for a quote for exactly what you want- ideally you'll find someone willing to make 200-300 on a 10 minute phone call - credit card, mail the paperwork.

The difference between the $50 deductable and $0 was a $100 upper, which brought it up to the $1525. That would be a break even after 2 uses.
I had an extended warranty with Ford previously with the $50 deductable. I paid it many times over. I tried to lump fixing several problems at once to save on the deductable. Now I dont have to worry. And if I never had to use it, that would be great.

Springfield must have raised their prices since I got a quote- the 1525/1750 was for a 24month purchase (ie buying the warranty two years after purchase, not when new) the 'new' plans were cheaper...
I like the zero deduct, just because you can bring it in for any little problem instead of lumping your visits. Still, my personal threshold would be around 100-150, or two to three visits. $225 seems a bit high.
(I bought a F250 PSD 4x4 last year, along with a factory warranty. But my brother-in-law is the GM for the Ford dealership... there is A LOT of profit in those puppies.)
