I have a 2011 MDX with 76k on it...just purchased it 3 weeks ago.
The oil and filter was changed last month.

The exhaust tips had a lot of black exhaust residue on them.
I cleaned the exhaust tips, drove around for about 50 miles and noticed more black exhaust residue on the exhaust tips.

Is this normal for the MDX to have exhaust residue on the tips so quickly?

The J37 runs very rich at startup which creates a lot of condensation on the exhaust..
You can confirm this when you start your car in the morning you will see condensation in the tailpipe and water pouring out when you gas it a little bit. I betcha the black soot gets more pronounced on the lower parts of the tailpipes right? That is because the water pours down when you drive.

This is more common in areas with high humidity % or the freezing states..
In the dry states it should not be that noticeable after you clean the tailpipes but soot will stain the tailpipes eventually.

Yes.....it's all on the lower part of the exhaust tailpipe.
I live in Missouri where the humidity is absolutely terrible in the summer and winters can be brutally cold.

Thanks again for the explanation!
