Driving in N.Y.C & Mileage

I get about 14 MPG in NYC. That includes some highway driving. Is this what I should expect? I've had the car for 10 days.

Is there any bumper to bumper traffic and are there many stops signs on your commute? Your mileage is basically zero at those times.
You will have to to get a lot of 20+mpg readings to contiue your present average. Your trip computer is a very valuable learning tool about your driving habits.

Are those of you that live in those high crime areas concerned with voiding your factory warranties with upgraded alarms and remote starters?

Screwed up an ignition system with a remote start and GM would not honor on my 2000 Silverado.
