I remember seeing an excellent thread which discussed these two hitches, including some side by side photos. I have tried searching for it, but came up empty handed. Can anyone help me find it?

Also, for any of you who bought the hidden hitch, did it arrive in good condition with no scrapes/scratches? The info on the e-trailer website says it has a special paint coating that resists rusting better than the competitors, which is moot if it gets scratched in transit.

Thanks for your help.

Tjwid,

Thank you very much. This is the thread I was searching for! Too bad the retailers cant ship the hitches with more protection. Kinda defeats the purpose of the rust resistant coatings.

I just got the draw-Tite hitch from etrailer last week. They did ship it in a cardboard box, but it had broken through during shipping and had some paint removed. I really don't consider it that big of a deal. I got some good primer and black spray paint and it's as good as new. I have a couple of points on this problem:
1) The price a etrailer is so good that I can live with a few scratches
2) Things will rust over time that are mounted under the body because their exposed to harsh conditions.
3) Any part of the hitch that can be seen can easily be repainted.

eTrailer got the hitch to my door for around $140, that's about $80 bucks less than anyone locally.

Draw Tite

similar experience with dBros. Best price was from the same vendor. My draw tite did come via ups, box torn open and slightly scratched. Thing is heavy, so somewhat understandable. Just used black touch up paint, good as new. One thing about the Draw tite is that it only took 55 minutes to install. (Make sure you read the instructions first! ). I also think subjectively speaking, looks more "heavy duty" than the HH.

Anyone who has the Hidden Hitch, does it come with the bolts, lock washers, and flat washers when you order the hidden hitch? Or you have to buy them yourself? I received the package yesterday, no bolts, lock washers, and flatwashers.

Thanks, Wu

Hi Storwatch:

___My Hidden-Hitch from E-Trailer arrived without a scratch and with all bolts and washers but for the size and weight, I wouldn’t be surprised if most broke through their boxes and received a scuff or two. Given its location, it really shouldn’t matter since it’s all but hidden anyway. In either case, the Hidden and Draw-Tite from e-Trailer.com are outstanding values. I purchased the Hidden Hitch for just $99.00 + $20.00 shipping with the box steel over muffler. At the time, they also had a Hidden Hitch round tube all the way across for a few dollars more but I haven’t given it another thought since.

___I am attaching the Hidden Hitch installation pdf (zipped) for those that don’t know about these great values just yet …

Thanks for the thread. I'd been wondering the same thing. Just got my X two weeks ago and need to carry a bike rack (not a boat or camper). The replies are a big help...as usual. It may have been discussed and I missed it, but does anyone know if holes pre-exist or do they have to be drilled.

Hi Alwx2:

___The pre-threaded holes are already there but you will have to remove the Acura – Tow hook on the left rear. Just pull the bolts and off it comes. The hitch and associated bolts need to mount and attach to these same pre-threaded holes where the Tow Hook is currently mounted.

Hi Storwatch:

___I am not installing the Tranny and PS coolers since I don’t carry loads over any kind of distance. I have read of 3 or 4 members that have installed the coolers themselves and once the front end/cowling of the X is off, it’s a relatively painless procedure. That is once the front end of the X is off if you catch my drift …

I installed the Hidden-Hitch a few weeks back and it only took me 30 minutes. The 3 bolts on each side were a snap and I didn't have to lower the exhaust either. I also have the Full Service Spare which I lowered to make the install go easier. Some have said that the draw-tite does not work with the FSS....some one who has both can confirm or dispute this.
