Difference between 2017 and 2023 MDX

We are contemplating getting a 2023 MDX. Presently have a 2017 MDX with just 38,000 miles on it. Since the mileage is low we have wondered if the added features in the 2023 are worth it. Basically, what is the difference between a 2017 and 2023 MDX?

Non touch screen interface, 10 spd Honda transmission not the 9Spd german built ZF garbage. Basically just backwards version of the 3rd gen. Better to keep the 17 unless you got $60k laying around. If you want it for keeping up with the Jones, then lease. Only reason to get a 4th gen is the Type S over the 3rd gen.

Barely broken in with only 38K miles. Unless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are must-haves, IMHO the benefits of the 2023 are not worth the cost.

There are no deals on new cars, particularly with today's high interest rates, whether you buy or lease. A new MDX is one of the worst "investments" you can make today, especially when you have such a low mileage 2017 MDX. There are better things that you can do with your money.

One can add a GROM VLine VL2 if they really are craving for AA and Carplay.

Since no one is answering your question. New Honda sourced transmission, TouchPad replaces the touch screen, refined interior, new body style, although still looks MDX. May also have the wireless charging. Personally I really dislike the TouchPad to control everything. But then again I don't use the TouchPad on my computer either. Just too sensitive to me. Like someone else mentioned price for the new cars is outrageous. I just can't justify paying more for a depreciating asset than I did for my 3rd house.

What is your current 17 MDX (base, tech, adv, hybrid, fwd, sh-awd) and what trim level are you thinking about with the 2023 MDX?

I would check out the 2023 MDX if you think it will offer you something different like:
  • shawd if you 17 MDX is a fwd version
  • upgrade in tech features (going from a base 17 to a tech/adv 2023)
  • upgrade in styling like the Aspec
  • updated interior of the +22
  • upgrade in performance with the MDX Type-S

I do not have those specs.....this is my girlfriend's car and she has asked my inputs in advance of a long trip this summer. I would have to get those details from her but I know it is AWD.

I would advise her that with interest rates and supply chain issues, this is one of the worst times to buy or lease a vehicle probably in the past 30 years. A 38K mile MDX is gold in the used-car marketplace. I would advise no action at this time.

Oh boy. Does it have Navigation? Does it have 360 camera? The lack of 360 camera will tell its either a base or tech. The lack of navigation will pin point its a base. Just some input on how to decipher between trim levels.

Also have her check insurance rates for a 23 in the trim level she is interested in. That alone will probably sway her to keep what she has.

Have 129k on a 2016 MDX, find no compelling reason to trade unless market changes and 2022 becomes viable, and not a fan of auto stop
I can't imagine selling the 2017 and buying the 2023 now. Even if it is a Base version the upgrades that the 2023, especially of higher trims, would have just can't be worth that much money - unless she has more money than she knows what to do with. Google Maps on a phone or tablet is far better than Acura's navigation program, and doesn't require hundreds of dollars for each annual (or so) map update. Audio is better on the newer car but if better audio is desired then $400 will buy the speakers needed to make the 2017 sound great. Different colors and wheels would be a silly reason to blow 10's of thousands of dollars. Perhaps if their were children a rear entertainment system would be nice, but "nice" is not "necessary". If she is happy with what she has, in cars and boyfriends, then she should keep what she has .

I do like my 2022 but if yours is running great and you are happy with it why upgrade?
Appreciate all the comments. Think we'll sit tight for now.

Fuzzy brains in charge. Really screwing up a good line with the ridiculous changes "because we can" rather than need. Hate the touch screens and the pushbutton stuff.
