Did I Wait the Longest for My MDX?

2160 Views 18 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  Pauls MDX
My very first post. I want to thank all of you for providing me such great information over the last I don't know how many months, and for sharing your passion for what we all agree is one fantastic vehicle!

My MDX history:

1) Began reading about it last summer/fall and knew I wanted one before it hit the showrooms.

2) Finally put a deposit down on April 1st after buying the brand new 02 TL w/navigation. Was told it would be 4 months.

3) Offered an 01 in mid September, but decided to wait for 02 at that point.

4) Took deliver of my Red Rock Touring w/Navigation on Nov 28! I will attempt to post a picture sometime soon.

5) Paid MSRP, but negotiated free mudflaps, burlwood shift knob, wheel locks, and 15K servicing of the TL! Got cargo cover at Tim's price of $109.

6) Yesterday I ordered from Tim the cargo liner, cargo tray, cargo net, separation net, and wood meter panel.

Considering simulated wood steering wheel and side molding, and waiting to see if I like the new tan Weathertec(?) all season floormats better than Acura's black ones.

The Red Rock looks fantastic to me and drives like a dream! Thanks again to all of you who take the time to share your knowledge, ideas, and opinions!

Just about

You waited just about the longest -- I put down a desposit in Mid Arpil and am expecting my RR 02 the first week of Jan.

Same deal -- could had a couple of 01's, but waited on the 02.

I think that the Redrock will be worth it -- post some pictures!!!
Congratulations on your purchase...

BornToRun,

Congratulations. It is a good feeling when the MDX finally arrives.

As far as the waiting game, mine was pretty close to yours. I got on the waiting list on January 2, 2001 and did not get my MDX until September 28, 2001 - almost nine months of waiting but definitely worth it.

Congratulations to the Red Rock! Our cars might have taken the paint shower together! ;)
Redrock is absolutely THE Color! Every night when I get home, turn the lights on in the garage and just stare at it continuously :)
I beat you - I ordered mine March 27th with a similar delivery option. I said if I cannot have one by the end of May I would wait for a 2002. I'm picking it up tomorrow! Silver base with a pile of items from Tim to be added.

Good luck and enjoy . . .
How do you guys do it? Are you all gluttons for pain? I waited a little over 2 weeks and that was unbearably agonizing... As far as I know, the MDX is not like wine or cheese that get better with age.
I'm up around the top of the list for longest waits too. I ordered my two touring (the only option up here in Canada) MDX's early March and also had the option to get the 2001's, but there were delays so I decided not to get the 2001's (I could only get one about a month before the 2002's came out. Since I was close to the top of the list for the 2002's I managed to get them in mid November. They were the 308th and the 346th 2002 made (I think!). And can you believe the dealer didn't even through in a few free things! well at least I got both of them for MSRP.

IN THE NORTHEAST I HAD TO WAIT FOR THREE MONTHS AND PAY OVER MSRP. THE DEALERS UP HEAR TELL YOU TO PAY OR GOODBYE BECAUSE THERE IS SUCH A HIGH DEMAND FOR THEM. ALL I HAD TO SAY WAS NO AND 5 PEOPLE WAITING BEHIND ME TO PAY OVER MSRP. I BELIEVE WHEN THEY INCREASE THE PRODUCTION LEVELS IN THE UPCOMMING YEARS THINGS WILL CHANGE. PRESENTLY THEY ARE COMMING OUT OF THE SAME PLANT AS THE HONDA ODDESSEY AND CANNOT MAKE ENOUGH TO FILL DEMAND SO YOUR WAIT WAS NORMAL AND IF YOU GOT MSRP BE VERY HAPPY BECAUSE WE IN THE NORTHEAST ARE VERY DISSAPPOINTED WITH PRICE UP HERE. LOVE IT IT'S GREAT SUV, BEST OF LUCK WITH YOURS HAVE A GOOD ONE

Geoff,
Wow, two? Was it like a two for one sale? Since you were waiting for two of them, I guess that would double your wait time. Over 8 months each would make that almost a year and a half.
I'm up there too. I placed my order for a SS Premium (RR second choice) back in the beginning of May. Hopefully I will have it in early Jan., according to my dealer.
Me too...

Looked at the MDX last November, finally decided on it in February, placed an order Feb 17, and now am down to the final days of waiting... 9.5 month wait!

(My MDX was still in Niagara Falls Saturday, so definitely not here yet, though that was the plan...:( )
Kenny:

Both are good colors. I personally like the Redrock, mainly 'cos it has the saddle interior. Unlike the SS, which is just one color in anytype of light, Redrock looks different in different angles ... it's just awesome. Do consider Redrock as your first choice....

Also, the SSs to RRs ratio is something like 100+ to 1. You will be unique :)
GCK,

I agree the RR looks like a great color, though I haven't seen one yet in person. My dealer isn't getting a RR in for another 2 weeks, and I have not seen one on the road yet. When I selected RR as my second choice it was sight unseen ( I was just hoping to get bumped up on the waiting list).

Now, I think it is to late to make the change because my dealer puts their allocation request in about 3 months in advance. Supposedly, I should be getting my X in the next month or so.
MDX wait

I got mine in four weeks from Acura of Escondido. MSRP but when it arrived, I was "Asked" if I wanted chrome wheels, locks, cargo tray, and mud guards. I paid $1000 for the accessories but I didn't think it was too far out of line. I suppose I could have turned it down and waited but I'm glad that I didn't.
5/1/01 and still waiting.
March 9, too!!! And I still don't have it!!! I was offered a 2001 in October, but opted to wait. I was told that my car would be built Nov, 17 -21, but haven't heard anything yet. Meanwhile, a second dealership called this morning to tell me my car has arrived. I put myself on their waiting list July 5. Go figure. I will probably have some choice words to post in the "Dealership Reviews" section about slimeball dealership #1 when this plays itself out!
PEOPLE WAITING FOR MDX'S

IF YOU ARE STILL AWAITING YOUR MDX AND THE DEALER IS PROMISING AND NOT COMMING THREW WITH THE CAR, IT MAY MEAN YOU NEED TO OFFER A PRICE ABOVE MSRP. IN THE NORTHEAST IF THEY TELL YOU THEY WILL SELL IT FOR MSRP YOUR WAIT COULD BE 6-12 MONTHS AND NOT EVEN GET THE VEHICLE. WHAT IS HAPPENING WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES IN IT GOES TO THE BEST OFFER AND IN MOST CASES ABOVE MSRP YOUR ORINGINAL SUV ORDER PROBABLY CAME IN ALREADY BUT SOMEONE OUT BID YOU. THEY WON'T TELL YOU THIS BUT I KNOW IN THE NORTHEAST IT'S A FACT. PEOPLE ARE PAYING AS MUCH AS $3000 OVER MSRP TO GET IN ONE MONTH. $1000 - $2000 FOR A TWO TO FOUR MONTH WAIT. ITS CRAZY BUT SUPPLY AND DEMAND COME INTO EFFECT. PRESENTLY THE DEMAND EXCEEDS THE SUPPLY THIS YEAR, BY NEXT YEAR WHEN THEY BUILD AN ADDITIONAL PLANT OTHER THAN THE ODESSEY PLANT THEY WILL BE EASIER TO GET AND BETTER PRICED, BUT IT'S WORTH THE WAIT AND EVEN THE PRICE OVER MSRP IT'S A GREAT SUV IN EVERY ASPECT SURPASSES THE COMPETITION IN ALL MANNERS BEST OF LUCK WITH THE ORDER]Originally posted by Shell-O
