Just wanted to ask a little about others' experiences. I am buying through Performance Acura in Cary, NC. I placed deposit/order with one salesman who I actually knew personally. He was promoted within the dealership, and my order was turned over to another salesman. During the transition, I found out my build date 1/27 - 1/31 and was told delivery no later than 2/10. I called last week after the build date to ask questions and was told they could not understand why I had been told no later than 2/10 (me either if not accurate). I called again Monday 2/4 to tell the salesman I had not been contacted by the business office to begin initial paperwork as he told me I would the previous week (left message). Then when the business manager calls he says 2-3 more weeks. I then spoke with one of sales managers who, like the salesman I have now, acts like I am being neurotic about knowing when the X is coming in and says they do not have any reports detailing the location (and still no call 9 days after build date). From what I have read here, you guys (and gals) have dealers who remain in very close contact with VINs and locations, etc. I am, on the contrary, sitting here wondering what's going on, because they treat me like I am being unreasonable when I call. What should I expect???? This is, after all, a $38K vehicle.

AS a sales rep for Acura I don't understand why they don't keep you informed. This is not difficult. It sounds like that your MDX was sold out from underneath you and they are scrabling to find you another one. I would call them and tell them you are thinking about cancelling your order. See if you can get information that way or I 'll get you one .We have production dated for feb now. If I can help let me know.

Your dealer name dose not make sense to me. Are you talking about Leith Acura in Cary/Apex, NC or Performance Acur in Chapel Hill, NC? Unless there has been a recent change in ownership?

I just moved from that area (Apex) and purchased my X from Leith Acura in Cary. My Sales person was George. I would say my experience was okay. They would not budge on price and acted like I was crazy for even asking. My impression was they were very snobby about Acuras. No forced options, well they somehow put on the towing package before delivery but, I told them to take it off. I had a price below MSRP at Performance but a long wait. So, we went with Leith and got a SS touring w/ navi. Again, I thought Leith was very snobby. It seamed like they thought that a young couple (mid 20s) could not afford a MDX (this is a $40K SUV).

Anyway, good luck. We love the X...

'X MOM:

Performance Acura is in Chapel Hill, NC, not Cary, NC. Leith Acura is in Cary. If it's Leith you're actually dealing with, talk with their General Manager, Randy Cain -- he's totally up-front, and I've not heard of any complaint that he couldn't "make good."

If you're dealing with Performance in Chapel Hill, I know nothing about them.

oops!

Sorry guys. I was in such an uproar when posting that I put Cary instead of Chapel Hill. My brain was on rewind and my fingers on fast forward! The dealership is Performance in Chapel Hill.

I remembered an earlier post of yours. You mentioned you were awaiting your white, MDX w/ Touring pkg. I did a quick check on Roger Womack's allocation/build date list and it lists that the white w/ Touring Package MDXs were last built on 01/07 - 01/11.

There were white ones built on the date span that they gave you but, it doesn't seem to jive with the model you're looking for? Perhaps they made a mistake and the 2-3 more weeks is the dates that the Touring package white ones will be built again? Hope this helps....Hang in there.

From Roger's list:
2002 184 - MDX NAVI WH/SL WHITE/SADDLE 0127-0131
2002 186 - MDX TOURPKG WH/SL WHITE/SADDLE 0107-0111

I think many of the sales people have been slow to respond to the reality of having customers who have been put on a long waiting list. It does make one anxious, anticipatory and downright crazy, especially when there's a good forum like this one constantly reinforcing what a good choice you've made :)

My saleperson had to be trained. I called a few times during my wait to make sure she knew I was not going to forget that I had this machine on order. Each time I tried hard to be patient and pleasant, so that she would not spite me somehow, and also so she would want to keep me patient and pleasant....

I was up front with her about how anxious I was, how much I was looking forward to it, and that I would really appreciate any updates to the status of my car whenever that may be. Her dealership had a policy to call people when the car was shipped, but then not to call again until it had arrived at the building! Since my car had unexpected delays during shipment, I was beside myself waiting during that time. She called me a couple of times, and I called her (and her boss) a few times, and things stayed pretty civil. When my car finally arrived, we all felt relief, since they had, in effect, come to want my car to arrive as badly as I did - it is, after all, $$ to them. Her boss even gave me a couple of symphony tickets (used for another promotion) for my good behavior ...

From your and others' posts, it does sound like a -er- mistake has been made with respect to your car. Delivery should be 2-3 weeks from build. I hope it works itself out quickly for you. Any chance your original sales rep (the one who was promoted within the dealership) would help you to unravel things?

Tony - thanks for the offer of help. Now that's more like it - a sales rep who is interested in the customer - what a novel concept!;) I'll let you know what happens.

Charlieinnj - thanks for the info......I think! Now that I know it's not on the list, I'm really nervous! I am waiting on the call from the new salesman, and I will certainly pick his brain! Sure am glad you love that white - I'm sure we will - one day..........

MDXMom - Have you considered a starting a training program for some of the deficient salespeople? I would like to enroll mine. Let me know when registration begins:D !:D ;)

Thank you all! I just hope I am not being taken for a ride....a very looooooooong ride!!

'X MOM....

Glad I could help you out.

When you speak to the salesman, ask him when, per the copy of his dealership's allocation list, will the white Touring Pkg be built? If it's 2-3 weeks like he's stating then he should have it on their allocation report. If you haven't already found it, you should check out Roger Womack's as an example. The build dates are set by the factory. They only build certain colors/models in batches so, there's no mystery as to how it works.

I'm pulling for ya! :)

Well - I got in touch with my original salesman on Friday. He seemed very disappointed in the level (or lack thereof) of service that I have been receiving from salesman #2. Original salesman confirmed the 2/10 delivery (yesterday) and said it should be there the day after (today). I let him know how disappointed I was that I had not even been given progress reports to let me track its progress to NC. Well, my original salesman (now in mgmt) spoke with salesman #2 and I got a quick call from him telling me my X is in Winston Salem, NC and should (but could not tell me for sure) be there (Chapel Hill) in a few days (ironic since both #2 and the asst sales mgr told me there was no way anyone would have told me to expect the 10th). I am still hoping that my original salesman is right and that it will come in there today! I truly believe these dealers should consider that their customers also have lives, and for those of us who live in another state, it requires coordination (jobs, kids, etc) to make the trip during the week (and daylight hours for inspection) when it comes. If they would track the vehicle's progress with the customer, I think it would be great for their reputation because customers would feel in the loop - so to speak - and have a better idea of timing. Maybe I am too much of a planner - but I told them that from the beginning!

Thanks so much for your interest! This site is great for people who understand and care! Just waiting for the call now! My birthday is next Sunday, and I sure would love to have our white X to have fun with!!!!!!!!!;) Wishful thinking?............... Hope not!:D :D

I agree!

It's not like the salespeople have to "sell" the car.
The MDX sells itself, the least these salespeople can do for our hard earned money is to keep us informed.
In this regard, Acura dealers perform more like a Honda dealer rather than a higher end dealer such as Lexus. I'm still at a loss on what the dealer does for thier premium profits.

(I feel better now.....ordered Nov 27th., still waiting)

The Acura dealer here treated and continue to treat me like gold. I have had several calls to make sure verything is ok. Iw as told I would be getting on sometime in Feb. (This was in Nov.) and I got one 3 days later. Although I did not have a color preference or model pref. I just wanted NAV...

Afterwards I "training" class about the car and nav was done with the delivery manager and he took over 2 hours with us and answered all of our questions, in addition, to showing us things about the car that the manual was very "sketchy" on.

IMHO, if I was treated the way you were treated, I would have beat feet a long time ago...
