Cracked manik footpads

Just a note for you Manik types - I noticed last week that the rear foodpad on my driver's side was fractured around the screwhead, cracked into 3 parts. Today I noticed a crack on my step as well same place.

Now I'm not all THAT heavy, although I do climb back and forth across side steps when I'm washing the roof. But after all, they are steps, I figure stepping on them is OK.

Anyway, for those of you that have these, you may want to keep an eye on this. Just called Frank at Nordleth, who's sending a new set out.

Ghost,

How long have you had these on? Did he give you any grief about replacing? Thanks for the info.
I had to go back to my Manik post to check (nice to have this online history of my car...) - June 30. Of course, I put both of mine on the same day :)

Frank was great - no static at all...
Not yet

We don't have the problem. I think I put ours on just before yours. I must admit though that we don't step on them. That will be changing as the weather changes. As we have discussed, have to step on them once winter starts. I'll keep an eye on them. :) :)
Did Frank mention if he's seen it happen to anyone else? That's surprising since as side steps they're supposed to be able to take a good pounding. Hopefully your's is just a aberration.

How boring, both on the same day.. the same week even! :p
I discovered an ever-so-slight split in one of mine, near the center of the step pad, before installing them. They sent me another set quickly. Great service. If they're cracking near the screw hole, any chance the screw is too tight?

When you said "crack in step as well" you didn't mean the stainless...did you? Yikes!
Two cracked Manik sidesteps ... not looking too good.
The step pads are HARD plastic with little 'flex'. I'm not sure if the step material on the Acura steps has more rubber and/or 'flex' or not.

It would have been a more secure/flexible step pad if the pads contained a little more rubber...or whatever they use to give it better grip and more flex. But, this might be a common material among side step manufacturers...don't know.

 No, no, just the pads - you're right, there should be a bit more rubber in these - they're probably going to have trouble with UV light in the long run.

Wonder if anyone makes aftermarket pads... :)
Checked my steps out today. I didn't see any cracks. But I'll keep checking and let you know.
Yes

Upon closer inspection I have small cracks around the screw heads on 3 of the four pads. Looks like they were over tightened. Ghost. Are you just getting the pads replaced?:(
I had asked Frank to ship me 2 pads and an extra bolt/nut.

I came home last night to find a box shipped 2nd day air from Manik - quick service :)

The box contained a full set of nuts, bolts and washers - no pads :(

The box came from Manik, not from Nordleth. I think Manik is confused.
Cracked Pads

I think I posted in another thread that one of my Manik foot pads have cracked. I've attached a picture so you can see how it's cracking.

Manik is sending me 4 new replacement footpads. Per DMor, they are supposed to made of a more flexible material, thus less likely to crack.

Please ignore the mud splashed on the tubes. It rained here yesterday and the client I went to had a huge pot hole with standing water in it....

Well...after all that, I too received my pads yesterday. Quick service...wrong sized pads.

Evidently they have skinny TUBULAR Maniks too. So, Ghost, can I borrow a few bolts for my non-fit pads? :) I don't think I would like the skinny sidesteps that must fit these skinny pads.

I'm waiting for another shipment, which should arrive today. Let's hope it's not the same pad style. So much for lofty connections. ;)
Atlanta, that's just what mine look like, I notice the crack is growing bigger, hope mine come today (and that they fit!)

Shame on you for posting such a dirty picture, though! :D:D
Ordered mine today

Just got off the phone with Ivette at Manik customer service. I didn't have the best connection (lots of feed back) so I will see what I get.
FYI

Eventually, someone will ask for names and numbers, so here they are:

Manik SideStep Replacement Parts

Contact Ivette @ (800) 987-8393 Ext: 6185 and order replacement step pads, etc.
Or if that doesn't work, you can call her sister Yvonne at this 900 number - she doesn't have much useful advice, but you'll forget all about your cracked pads...

:D:D
LOL!! Thats a different cra .... oh nevermind all this crack talk

My Acura brand steps are all good .. no cracks but a little spot where the color is changing on one of the foot pads. Other than that the dealer took this truck off road and trashed the underside with white rock and dirt.

TECK!
