They can only squash you, if they catch you! I consider handling a big safety feature.

You are taking a lot of abuse which is likely well deserved.....

All the comments about great convertibles forgot one (well probably more) great little convertible...the fiat spider (and the alfa spider)....its a classic car with STYLE...the miata just has no class to it...its like a a a a ford tempo....best of all, the fiat spider is cheap, not much more than a navi option....here is a picture (not mine, mine is black)

I'd like to take your post seriously, but your resorting to hyperbole in comparing a Miata to a Tempo undermines your argument tremendously. I will say the following:

I certainly won't disagree that your Fiat is fun to drive--small, light sports cars always are. But there is one key difference between your Fiat and my Miata: the Miata always runs. Reliability was one reason I chose the X over an X5, and I am sure you factored that into your decision as well.

It's certainly possible that you take extraordinarily good care of your Fiat and that it has been 100% reliable, but let us not forgot that there is a good reason why Fiats are not known for their stellar reliability. Now that a large part of Fiat has been purchased by GM, I only expect their quality to get worse!

My Miata is also safer and quicker than your Fiat, and has the world's finest manual transmission, bar none. There are more Miata owners, and more Miata clubs. Your Fiat lacks the thriving owners community that the Miata has. Indeed, I think Miata owners are some of the most passionate drivers of any automobile in the world. We have our own magazine, even!

As your Fiat gets older and starts to rust, you will likely be interested in finding a fun-to-drive replacement. May I recommend that you visit miata.net

Nice pic, but my old '79 (or was it a '78? :p ) Toyota Corolla wagon could have driven that road, no offense  Unfortunately, along with the 5 spd your miata also comes with one of the world's wimpiest engines for which mazda even had to admit it was exagerating the hp ratings, how sad is that? :p I'd much rather have the S2000's 6 spd than the miata's "world's finest manual transmission, bar none" :p 5 spd. No offense to either one of you guys, but I would never buy a fiat or mazda cuz they both generally suck compared to Honda. I'd also like to thank you (seriously :) ) for adding this little miata debate to my Big Scrub thread as it helps keep it at the top of the page so more people can admire my photographic wizardry :p

If reliablity is your main concern then drive a bike....

Those of us who appreciate the "finer things" will put up with the occasional quirk...like ferrari, lamborghini etc.....are they the most reliable? nope, but when you are driving one, you don't really give a ****.....These cars have panache....the fiat has style and elegance, the miata? The miata is a chick's toy for suburbanites....

C'mon, the guy chose an MDX--he's one of us! Your opinion may be that the Miata = femininity, but sheesh, save your best cutting remarks for Lester89, someone who wants a cutdown-fest...

Just my thoughts...

Hey, Lester89 was a great source of amusement.....kinda wish he was still posting...

A question for the moderator..., is it really necessary to remove or block out what you feel are inappropriate words? Really, the beauty of the internet is the lack of censureship....I do not think it necessary to edit or block out what you do not approve of....so lighten up!!!

You must be new to the internet cuz censureship occurs ALL the time on the net. For example, someone posts on the MB forum that their transfer case blew up, and then it mysteriously dissappears :p People often confuse internet "forums" with "public forums" in the traditioal legal sense, like your public park for instance. In a true "public forum," generally speaking anything short of "fighting words" must be tolerated by the government and cannot be censured. On the net, forums are privately owned and the moderators can choose to do WHATEVER they want, so quit whining if the moderator chooses to exercise some reasonable discretion in zapping what he considers to be inappropriate comments. If you go back and read The Worms explanation on page one of this thread, I think you will find that he tries to allow a lot of leeway but draws the line at personal attacks. It's one thing to say a miata is a wimpy car, it's another to say its driver must therefore have a small penis :p BTW, from what the Worm has told me, that was the nature of the edited posts :D I don't think the Worm needs to justify his actions to you, but in any event he already has on page one. Worm, please feel free to zap the male anatomy reference above :)

Dude...All am saying is...I ain't gonna get caught driving a ME-ATA....like me...am outa here when it comes to sitting in that car. Its SUCH a girly car.

My friend was SOOO traumatize by the jokes he gets when he first bought the Miatas was that he took it to an aftermarket engine company and put a 5.0 v 8 Mustang engine in there so that he can play with the big dogs. okay...so now he is fast...ITS STILL A GIRL car. :D

I agree. He could use some new material, though. His latest post was very weak.

Sometimes.

I think that's only true with porn sites.

I do not think it necessary to edit or block out what you do not approve of.
Me neither. What may potentially (or, in some instances, does) offend the other 3285 folks here is the determinant.

...so lighten up!!!
No.

I don't have an issue with folks stating that Miata owners have small penises, or that MDX owners are "compensating" (although I haven't seen the definitive study on these hypotheses -- I just know I'm not :). The original post went a bit beyond that, so I cleaned it up.

BTW, I'm having some difficulty reconciling how you can simultaneously 1) want no censorship or editing of posts, but 2) are opposed to people using signature lines. Freedom of speech and all that...

I am more familiar with usenet groups which have no filtering, my mistake...anyway my comment was directed at my earlier post (the "richbrett1" - my home name) where the moderator edited out my saying "who gives a ****." I guess that will be edited out again....In any event, this was no personal attack on anyone, just a rhetorical question.....

My point is that the overzealousness of the moderator obscures the stupidity, brilliance, immaturity etc of the author of the message....If it something blatantly offensive fine, but using the word ****? gimme a break. People, get off your high horses and turn on a television...

Herb/Rich,

FYI there are several mods on the boards, and I know I didn't edit the "who gives a ****" comment. I can tell you that virtually all of the edits occur only after another member complains via the 'report post to a moderator' button. A scant few are proactive edits (mine on ja's this thread). I fail to see how that can be characterized as "overzealous".

I'm looking forward to more of the offroading pics. I hope you won't call those a 'self serving brag attempt serving no real purpose'
