After 6 months of reading anything and everything on this site, and 2 months of waiting for my MDX, I finally got the call, in 2-3 weeks it “should” arrive (Black/Saddle touring). I now summarize my 6 month education process at this turning point.
For those who actively participate in posting on the site, below is a list of how my thought process has been sculpted/corrupted by you. And for all those new members, these are some of the topics/lessons learned.
1. “Search before you post” -- The site took a whole new life when I actively started using the search engine
2. “Less is good too” -- More accessories does not necessarily mean a better MDX, buy what feels and looks right to you
3. “What is interesting to you may not be to your spouse” -- Don’t bug your spouse about every possible accessory/option/third party or he/she may ban you from the computer (lesson learned) example: if you are torn between the chrome Maniks vs. the black OEM sidesteps or the silver powdercoating, don’t invite her to see every picture that is posted on the subject
4. “1000 words” -- If possible, take some pictures and share with the other members, they speak a 1000 words. Those that have posted with pictures of installation, DVD setups, Maniks, … Thanks!
5. “Weeping, seat hair …” – Although there are complaints about many issues, generally most all members do not regret their purchase
6. “Have fun and a sense of humor” – Some of the most enjoyable threads are when members engage in a little trash talking about various subjects.
7. “Motorhead” – You don’t have to be knowledgeable about cars to be accepted on this site. Even after all the re-assurances from members about how easy it is to install the body side molding, I still am having the dealer install, but I am sure nobody will hold that against me.
8. “Zaino” -- Buy Zaino for detailing and leverage off of “The Worms” knowledgeable posts
9. “Tim” -- Buy accessories from Tim at Hondacuraworld.com , especially those that require little or no installation
10. “MSRP, but worth it” -- The MDX appears to be a great SUV, worthy of MSRP, waiting list and dealer challenges faced by many members on this board
I could go on and on, however my "wife imposed" time limit for tonight expired. All this “work” and she is the one who gets the X when it arrives. Life is not fair.
