Help is on the Way?

I called Acura customer service today to follow up on the clock issue. The rep said that they did have a fix and that I would be receiving a recall notice in the mail to take our 2002 MDX to the dealer for a no charge repair. He said that the reason that this is taking so long is that it is a national recall issue that has to be worked through NHTSA and that they needed to prep the dealers on the fix. He didn't know when the notices would be sent out.

Umm...you didn't take it in for the Air Bag Recall?
Not all cars were affected by the air bag recall. The very early 2001 MDX's were not. At least, that's what they told me. I had one of the early ones, had to order and wait several months. I still remember the stares as I traveled about. In restaurants and such, I could see people in the parking lot putting their faces up on the window to look inside. Made me feel like I had a Bently or something...... I always set off the panic button when that happened......good times.

After downgrade to my old black NAV CD, my 2002 MDX's clock come back last night.
1. Get into NAV diagnostic mode (at Menu page, push and hold Menu 2 second + MAP 2 second + cancel 5 second to get into diagnostic mode, ordering is important) with new NAV CD
2. Choose "UNIT CHECK", there is force download at left corner, choose force download and then "YES"
3. Change back to old NAV CD, screen will pop up door open and disk error ....
4. At this step, I don't really know what is correct procedure, I try to get into diagnostic mode, but it's not working. I also try many different button combinations....
after couple minutes, NAV looks like come back and you will see earth picture
5. Get into NAV diagnostic mode, choose UNIT CHECK, Force Download... My NAV downgrade back to old version and clock come back...

If you still have old black NAV CD, just try it. I believe Acura know correct procedure to downgrade NAV.

Quite Comical

I got here while looking for a refurb control unit and find that this problem is quite comical. My display has digressed to displaying incorrect colors over a few months, but it still navigating away so to speak. Clock is stuck at 00:00. There are so many irritating functions from the days of old, first being the obnoxious 'dong' everytime the girl gets ready to say something. I love my Garmin very old nav, which calculates ETAs correctly, displays traffic problems, tells you your speed and the speed limit, updates for free by plugging in to the computer, and on and on. But don't do like I did. I stuck the suction cup to the Acura screen and permanently engraved a circle into the display. My 2001 old girl has 249K miles and I am 73, so eventually one of us will croak. I'll check in every year or so and report if my clock starts working.
I'm glad I found this thread. I suspect if I find a used display unit, it won't fix squat!
One upgrade I did today. After 10 years of not being able to read the temperature setting, I finally pulled the panel and ordered 3 new bulbs. They are available on the internet for about $4.50 each, but since I have a honda account, they were $14.00 total. Its funny that the Honda Dealer and Acura Dealer are about 5 miles apart and belong to the same dealer. Acura won't recognize my account and wanted $35 for the three bulbs.
Good luck you guys.

Anyone know where I can find a stick-on clock to put on the dash?
I've put a lot of time/effort/money into trying to find one. Didn't want anything that booked instruments or screens.
Short answer: no
Stick-on (battery) aren't lit at night; some are huge (3 inches diameter) and all have to be placed carefully to avoid screen glare.
The digital [wired] one I got [numbers 0.3 inch high] was way too bright at night; others were 5 inches across.
The least bad one I found is from eBay and cost about $5.... but took 6 weeks to arrive. It's about an inch in diameter and is very readable. After trying a lot of locations I have decided on putting it just behind the steering wheel. Second best location is over near the A pillar, but glare is an issue. Still hard to read at night and you have to pry the clock out of the housing to set it.
Amazon has a very similar-size model from Seiko for about $10 but it's a movement only..... no case. Obviously good quality. Thinking about fabricating an acrylic mount for it.

My '02 MDX has show 00:00 since mid August '17. Acura told me it's a satellite issue. They said many MDX's clock started working again in Sept. Not mine. I doubt they are working on it. They offered no advice.

Just received a call from Acura. They have a fix for the issue and are sending me a DVD with the update on it along with instructions to load, then I'll re-insert the existing Navi DVD for use. Said I could expect to receive it in 3-4 weeks, so we'll see. Just thought I'd give an update on what I know at this time. If you haven't already called Acura re. this, be sure to do so, as the woman I spoke with said they are only contacting those individuals who have called in to inquire about the issue.

No Happiness Yet

Since I had not received a call from Acura I called tech support to follow up. The guy looked up my case number and told me that they did not have a fix for my 0:00 issue as yet. He said that there are two different problems with the same symptom of 0:00 and that they are still working on it. Depending on model and build date the electronics are different. Our 2002 MDX was an early 2002 unit. We took delivery around Thanksgiving of 2001.
