Clock stuck to 0:00, navi/GPS working fine

My 2001 MDX clock on the navi screen has been stuck to 0:00 for a day or two. If I go in the hidden menu, the GPS time is correctly showing the Greenwich time so that's not the problem. I cannot manually make time adjustments in the setup menu either.

I have found a discussion about an issue that interestingly happened exactly one year ago on 99 TL models.

The bad news is it seems we have a software issue that causes the clock to malfunction 17 years into its life. The good news per same thread is the issue may resolve itself within a month.

See the refenced thread here:

That is hilarious. Acura's version of Y2K. Good to know so that I don't go OCD on my 2004 in three years and rip out the electronics trying to fix.
THANK YOU! :smile2: Our 2002 MDX went to 0:00 on 8/16/17. I tried the obvious things; went into the diagnostic menu, redownloaded the software, etc. Nothing worked. I googled around but didn't find the TL thread. Talked with an Alpine service tech yesterday who had never heard of the problem. His recommendation was to take it to the dealer. I then thought, well, how about a stick-on digital clock. Didn't like that solution because you can't read it at night. Was getting ready to pull the display and the DVD drive today to send them to Alpine for repair. So, your post has hopefully saved me the cost of having Alpine refurb the unit. Let's hope that the system resets itself.
Maybe there's an Elvis Presley fan at Acura, who programmed the clocks to shut down to commemorate his death? ;-)

Bizarre problem, though... I do have to admit I love problems that seem to eventually fix themselves though!

Yeah, the worst part is if you talk to Alpine or Acura they say they have never heard of this problem. I did not bother calling them after reading on the other thread that multiple people had already called with no results.
This is almost comical. Mine also went to 0:00 on 8/16/17. Our classic cars must have reached their expiration dates! I love my 2001 MDX. It still runs and looks like new. Kudos to Honda but Alpine (maker of the NAV), not so much!
What is going on here?!?! Acuras/Honda's way of saying to stop using technology? I mean if that's the case do we stop using VTEC? Oh no no no no ... Really was that an update on the clock system or something cuz mine went out 8/17/17 at 0630 hrs when I was leaving for work displaying, 0.00.... but the clock worked the night before it worked at 2232 hrs, 10:32 pm. I do not understand because I didn't think acura or honda got updates like that automatically. What's really going on here with our "reliable" before technology cars n SUVs. I always loved these mdxs, I do not want technology to kill it.
I hope there's a fix to this... i got in the car today 8/19/17 and i got all zero's!

My clock also went 0:00 and I can't change it!

I just noticed that the clock on my 2002 MDX w/nav. has the clock stuck to 0:00 and I can't change it!

Maybe this due to the eclipse tomorrow? :)

Glen in California.
I have a 2002 Acura RL ... same problem, and it happened right around the same time as everyone else on this thread. Still showing 0:00. Today is 08/20/17. Hopefully the eclipse will fix it tomorrow. :) LOL
We have two Acuras: CL (2001) and MDX (2002). Both clocks went to 0.00 this past week. What gives? Looking for divine intervention!

Same here for 2001 MDX.
Just to add to the list, my 2001 MDX also went to 0:00 this past week, probably around 8/16/17. Clearly a software issue. I hope Acura/Alpine admit this and come up with an acceptable solution
I checked the GPS constellation status and the government is doing some testing/maintenance; perhaps that has something to do with it?

I've sent them an email.
Problem is local

When I went into the diagnostic menu it shows the correct GMT time, but just does not display it. So, I think the satellites and the GPS unit are working OK. But something is amiss in the GPS unit's software.
Read the link to the other Acura thread - this is a long-known issue that apparently just corrects itself after a while. No doubt just a programming glitch in the Honda software... kind of funny, actually.

I do have to wonder if it'll ripple down through every year of production, of if there will come a point where the code was fixed. So far it looks like the 2001 and 2002 models have had the issue - looks like my '04 will be good for a year or two. ;-)
Me too.

I'm another "me too" for this issue. I have an acura RL 2001. It's damn annoying
Another victim of this problem

My 2001 MDX had this same problem 8/19/17.....but I could not change/increment the time at all.....truly stuck on 0:00...I cannot even press the 0:00 to expand it to the larger window either......
It happened to me too, Acura CL 2001, clock reset to zero a few days ago. I didn't pay attention to the date, assuming I would just reset it when I got a chance and have been busy and scatterbrained lately. So decided to post a funny on facebook today, and a friend linked me to this and I realized it's for real! I miss my clock. I never realized how often I glance down at the clock while out and about!
2003 Honda Odyssey- clock at 0:00

Hello!

Just wanted to add my data to the discussion. Same thing happened to me a few days ago with my 2003 Honda Odyssey clock suddenly showing 0:00. When I try to change the time using Hour + or -, nothing happens. :-( This is really annoying and I hope it resolves itself soon!

I think I bought a new updated navigation DVD once during the past 14 years. Not really worth spending $150 when cell phones can navigate for free!
