The posts under "Locks" piqued my curiosity. I noticed that Clifford has a feature called BlackJax that shuts off the engine a few minutes after the car is "car jacked." Has anyone used these types of alarms and is this feature more of a pain to use because you always have to key in an ID before driving the car? Do you have to keep re-entering the ID during the same "trip?"

I'm happy with the MDX factory system. Aside from the "autolock" reasons mentioned in the "Locks" thread, are there any other alarm systems out there worth getting, if at all? Anyone know who makes the MDX alarm and whether there are "add-ons" made by that manufacturer that would work with the MDX system?

I have installed a Crimestopper alarm in my previous car that has the car jack feature. There was no need to punch in a code every time you start the car. Once programmed, if the alarm modules senses driver's door open with the ignition turned on, it automatically shuts off the engine after 1-2 minutes and the engine shut-off kicks in and the car is disabled.
It also had the auto door locking feature which locks the doors once the ignition is turned on, provided all doors are closed, and unlocks the doors when the ignition is turned off. It is a very convenient feature especially if you have children, it keeps the doors safely locked.

Beige_MDX, I have since moved to a safer neighborhood and do not have a need for any additional alarms. I feel the factory alarm satisfies all my needs.

Let me get this straight-

If I have this carjack alarm in, and I back out of the garage, jump out to move the garbage can, or because I forgot my coffee, then jumped back in it would cut out in while I am driving on my way to work?

And this is a convience for the one in 10000 chance that I'll get carjacked and not have my doors locked?

Man, I'm glad I live in the sticks.

My point is that it is insane to have that 'feature' given the exceedinly low probability of a car jack ANYWHERE! Especially when it is not that uncommon to open the drivers door with the car running!

really, once the door is open and you are lying dead on the road, why would you care if the car is disabled. (granted, if you have kid/car seats you might want it disabled.) Still, how often are you carjacked?

I agree with you Ard, It is a tad bit overkill... I guess some don't mind the 'inconvenience"
