I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this Problem.....

When I drive I like to place my right arm on the center console. For some odd reason the vinyl is starting to wrinkle up. So I brought it in to an Upholstery shop and they replaced the vinyl with leather. It was Cheap $50 and they even sewed in "MDX"

Is the top of the armrest of the center console vinyl? I thought it was leather, my son thought it was vinyl. I hate to think my son was right again. The vinyl portion of the seats have a rough texture to them, whereas the center armrest was smoother, which is why I thought it was leather.

Wear&Tear on Vinyl console

Hey gang...been in lurking mode the past few months. However, I first started noticing this a few months ago. Wrinkles.....Just recently I zaino'd the seats and interior. When I did the surface became coarse, smudgy, and irritable to the skin.
Hell....I rest my elbow on this bad boy and look at it now.
It has also started to happen on the side panel just below the drive side window (where I rest my other elbow).
I am thinking of getting some Vinylex to "treat: it. Anyone object.

Is the 2003 console lid leather?

If the 2003 console top is leather, is the part the same size with the same attachments as 2001/2002 models? If so, how about a group buy or a monthly special Tim?!

edit: Ooopps. Sorry..did not recall seeing this in another thread. For $27 bucks is this real leather? Is the quality any better than the vinyl on the 2001?

Arm rest fix

Boy oh boy - we got the exact same issue with ours and would love to get more information on what you did on yours. A picture of the actual new one would be perfect & contact info on who did the work.

Vinylex is fine for treating the 01/02 console, but I doubt it'll fix the wrinkles. Yes, the 03 is leather. I bet it'll fit the 01/02. I'd have the dealer replace it under warranty, or order one from Tim. It isn't expensive (he mentioned price in another thread, but I don't recall exactly how much -- <$25 I believe).

edit: Tim said $27.70 in this thread.

I just ordered the leather '03 center arm rest from Tim for $27.70. This is a great price. He said he will try it out to verify it fits when he gets it in.

I will post before and after pictures as well as my impressions when I get and install it. Hopefully next week some time.

'03 Leather

Wow, that is a great price Tim. I tried to get dealer here to replace mine under warranty and they responded with the typical "normal wear" response on it.

I'll be waiting somewhat patiently to hear results of the conversion.

Wow..Great price. I am happy with my "fake" leather for now. I just feel the vinyl can take a bit more abuse and I don't worry as much about it as I do the leather. I will "upgrade" to the leather for sure when my vinyl one buckles????? How the heck does that happen??? I am guessing Polytat has 25 inch pythons for arms to cause that kind of damage.:)

Hock:

They are 18"...but I'll take the 25 anytime.
I am going to go to the dealer to get this fix...it is still under warranty (pending the 03 fits the 01 middle console):D

I had the same problem

Dealer replaced armrest for free, said it was a common thing on the 2001. The new armrest on my MDX is now thinner like the 2002.
