Well, We just had our first real snow in Southeast
Michigan (relatively speaking). I figured I'd start up the MDX engine with my spare valet key... to defrost windows and warm up the car.

I was hoping to LOCK the doors with my remote and wait in my office until the car warmed up.

NO SUCH LUCK! the MDX won't lock from the outside
with the engine running.

I thought I saw that in the manual.
Acura tries to make it hard for you to lock yourself out when the key is in the ignition.

You should be able to lock all the doors from the driver side by doing the following.

With the driver's door open hold the door release handle out.

Lock the doors with the power lock switch.

Shut the door.

Ok. I rushed out to the parking spot after reading this post. I opened the Driver's door held the OUTSIDE door release handle out and tried locking the doors with the power switch......NO LUCK...IT DID NOT LOCK!!

I returned to my office to reply to your post with my results and thought maybe I should have held the INTERIOR Door release handle out. I hurried back outside and attempted that method still ...FUTILE.

If anyone does have a legitimate method of locking the doors with the engine running, Please share it.
Thanks.

If that's what you want to do, I would rather do it right and install a remote starter. (You wouldn't want to go through some elaborate procedure to lock the doors and then forget one time and actually lock your keys in there!)

But (as a future owner) I'm curious to know what the MDX owner's manual says about warming up the engine before you drive off. (My other car specifically states not to do this.)

What are people's opinions about this practice?

I have installed and remote starter and I have the same problem.

Once the engine is running, the remote doesn't work . I have to use a key to open up the door. T

According to the person who installed the starter.. There is a way to bypass this feature however... they need to get the wiring diagram to do it..

Does anybody have an idea as to how to bypass this feature?

One solution is to enter from the passenger side and, leaving the door open, start the car. Then, lock all doors using the passenger master door lock switch and exit. (Make sure you have another key!) I thought I had discovered something unknown, but then I reread page 84 of the owner's manual, which spells this out.

Hope this meets your needs!

As another comment, I frequently use the master door locks if I need to get things out of the back seat and, having my hands full, don't want to use the key fob to lock the doors.
