Broken side mirror

2312 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  DaleB
Just realized the driver's outside mirror is cracked. It is a hairline crack shaped like an upside down "U" and is hard to notice. First found it by the unusual reflection of the image in the mirror. We have had some cold weather and I suspect it cracked when I've used the heated mirrors option.
Has anyone experienced the same and how would one claim this as a warranty issue (ie what's to prevent the dealer from saying I was rugged w/the side mirror and cracked it myself?). This is my first experience with heated outdoor mirrors but somewhat doesn't surprise me. ???? Do these things happen regularly with this type of mirror? Comments please.

Sorry to hear of your problem. just take it to dealer; sounds like he be able to determine it wasn't due to rough handling.

I've had heated mirrors in both my legend and my 3.5RL.
Even in cold spells, i've never had a problem nor have i heard of any. Be interested to hear what others think.

still waiting for my mdx; any day now.
Same thing happened to me. I took the car the hills, the mirror cracked when I turned on the heat.

Ray.
I just noticed that my passenger side mirror had a hairline fracture horizontally across the center. I saw no evidence that someone banged it in the parking lot, so I assume that the heated mirror option cracked it.
I had a similar problem on an Explorer. An easy and inexpensive fix is to buy a replacement (very thin glass) mirror from Nations Glass, email [email protected] You stick it over your old mirror using silicon as an adhesive. Mine has been on for over a year with no problems.

Good luck . . .
This just happened to me the same day I used the side mirror heater for the first time this season when they were covered with ice. I'm calling the dealer on Monday. Mine is very subtle but extends the length of the driver's side mirror straight down the middle. If I can get it to come out right, I'll post a pic later.
MonsterLuv and rglasstone, could you add your geographical location to your signatures. It would be helpful to know if this problem is showing up on only cold climates, or when going from a warm garage in California to the snow in the moutains, etc. etc.
Yeah, I know it's my pet peeve, but having your locations helps a lot on here.

Haha..you got me! OH well, who knows if their trannies are even holding up? :D
Speaking of mirrors, I did something almost as stupid as backing into a railing last year and putting a ding in my hatch.
I moved into a left turn lane and clipped the bed of a pickup truck with the right mirror. I thought I broke it.
I ran out and sure enough it just folded in. There was not even a small scratch on the backside. Must have been that Zaino lube that protected it! :D

It is interesting the cracked mirrors were all reported about the same time, and topic has never come up again until now.
broken side mirror

I actually forgot that I posted the issue with the broken side mirror, but just got a notification via email that someone had replied to my posting:) To answer your questions, I live in Colorado Springs, CO and shuttle to and from Beaver Creek, Vail, Breckinridge, Keystone, and Copper ski resorts during the winter. I use the heated mirrors to melt the ice/snow during snow storms.

When I brought this to my dealer's attention, they replaced it under warranty. My MDX is at 30k now and I still love it.

Excellent! These cracked mirrors sound like isolated instances..
